It's too late now - diamond prices are down and (IMO) likely to keep falling and falling as lab diamonds take over the market. For my money, it's a huge and irreversible change in the market, upending 5,000 years of human history. If somebody invented a way to cheaply sieve gold out of seawater (which actually contains a fair amount of gold) the same thing would happen to gold as well.
