IC Online this week-
At 279p the shares are down on our original buy advice (289p27 feb 14)but there is plentyto be pleased about and a forward earnings ratio of just 13 appears to have priced in the recent trading slump. We're sticking to our guns on this one.Buy.

and Shares mag today...Plays Update..
We are staying positive on Bonmarche....
ends...Given the tough comparitives Bonmarche delivered a robust interim performance and its structural growth attractions remain compelling.

Any thoughts on the interim results? It seems they have not really been able to prevent their reliance on cold weather for their autumn/winter offering which really makes this a play on the long term weather forecast at the moment.

Also, you have got to love Google's business model - punish new websites with a slide down the rankings and then charge the companies for advertising to recover the lost traffic!

IC Online-
Sales figures from Bonmarche didn't appear too sparkling at first view with in store like for like declines of 1.7 per cent in the 13 wks to 27 June, but this was set against strong growth of 13.5 per cent a year ago, while online sales grew 11.4 per cent in the most recent period too.
Buy.

Bought some today and did a bit of research, 17th in a Which survey for customer service and the top clothing retailer on the list -

Have they changed their shop fronts, they definately look nicer. Guess it's all on the next update. Sold out last time as the price was going nowhere and avoided a profits warning. Hopefully more luck this time.

Trading update at the end of the month:

Clothing sales increase 1.8% with boost from summer weather

Sunshine last month had a warming effect on clothing sales and helped retailers with increases in like-for-like sales

Bonmarché’s shares fell 15p to 261.5p, still significantly above the 200p they were valued at when the company listed, unlike other flotations such as Boohoo.com.

Analysts at Cantor Fitzgerald said that the company is likely to be a beneficiary of the recent pension reforms.

“This could prompt a significant spending boom over the next two years as is evident from the significant drop in annuity sales over the last six months,” they said.

I guess at the current valuation and PE of 14, the market was expecting results to come in ahead of management expectations and continued YoY strong growth. Q1 FY2016 growth rate will be key. If it doesn't return to strong growth, I can see this share rerating to 10x FY2016 EPS forecasts.

"elsewhere retailer Bonmarche is surprisingly down 5% to 261.5p despite saying it is satisfied with the current years performance and anticipates the outcome will be in line with expectations, implying 4% sales rise."

Over-50's womens clothes retailer Bonmarche has reported sales for the year ending 28 Mar were up 8.7per cent compared to the previous year.
Like for like sales were up 4per cent,or 6 per cent if online sales are included.Good summer weather supported strong performance in the first half of the financial year but a mild autumn made trading more difficult.BUY.

The share price fell during March and (so far) has suffered a muted fall (5%)on today's news. Did the market get a whiff of this during March?

Agree with both, not a good update and there is scant explanation - but those who understand the sector may be able to deduce the explanation. The lfl fall in the 13 weeks to 28 March 2015 may be due to discounting on stock which didn't sell due to the mild autumn. There are follow on effects for a retailer that has a poor season. Low year end stock gives the chance to perform well in the current year. For me, the jury is out, but I'm hopeful. The verdict will come on 12 June, when there should be an initial comment on current year trading, alongside the results for last year. Clothing retailers can have a short spell of poor trading and bounce back later.

Bonmarche is financially strong, pays a dividend, and serves a growing sector of the population. A 'hold', pending the next update? Nai, dyor.

That definitely wasn't a good Q4 result, and no attempt by management to explain why or reassure that it is not going to spill over to FY2016! Good that they ended the year without surplus winter stock though. They're going to miss broker forecasts revenue for FY2015 but their statement leaves room for maybe meeting EPS.
