So many plastic bottles being sold every day. Wow. Only 7% going for recycling. Microplastic is even in tap water now :(

Nice article today in FT about UK government considering fees on plastic coffee cups, chips bags and some plastic packaging. They are starting consultations with consumers and stores. Universities will be involved in finding solutions. Perhaps Biome's cooperation with Warwick will pay out!

It took years for politicians to have the nouse to bring in charges for plastic bags. A few years down the road its been a great success and not full of complications as the politicians argued against the charge at the time. In Germany they even have deposits on bottles which is far more complicated. It will happen one way or another at some point or the vendors will do it anyway like Iceland are committed too eliminating plastic packaging. The movement against plastic has started and will be a potential vote winner at the next election.

No levy on plastic cups to be introduced in Uk. Politicians think that people will be carrying own mugs to take away to get a cheaper coffee on the go. Politicians live in a different world.

I don't know if PG tips are using BIOM's tech, but BIOM certainly offer corn and potato based bioplastic solutions.

And, of course now PG tips offer plastic free, compostable tea bags all the other producers will have to follow suite...

"PG Tips are currently made mostly with paper, but a small amount of polypropylene plastic is used to seal the bag and this takes a long time to break down.

The replacement material is made from corn starch, making the 10 billion PG Tips teabags produced every year, fully biodegradable."

PG Tips to switch to plastic-free teabags

Tea maker PG Tips is to switch to fully biodegradable, plant-based teabags, parent company Unilever has announced.

Most manufacturers currently use polypropylene to seal teabags - they say it strengthens them and stops them disintegrating in a cup.

Unilever said the move to plant-based sealants was based on "cutting edge science and technology"...
