09/3/2018 17:34 | It took years for politicians to have the nouse to bring in charges for plastic bags. A few years down the road its been a great success and not full of complications as the politicians argued against the charge at the time. In Germany they even have deposits on bottles which is far more complicated. It will happen one way or another at some point or the vendors will do it anyway like Iceland are committed too eliminating plastic packaging. The movement against plastic has started and will be a potential vote winner at the next election. | amt

28/2/2018 15:31 | I don't know if PG tips are using BIOM's tech, but BIOM certainly offer corn and potato based bioplastic solutions. And, of course now PG tips offer plastic free, compostable tea bags all the other producers will have to follow suite... "PG Tips are currently made mostly with paper, but a small amount of polypropylene plastic is used to seal the bag and this takes a long time to break down. The replacement material is made from corn starch, making the 10 billion PG Tips teabags produced every year, fully biodegradable." | someuwin

Most manufacturers currently use polypropylene to seal teabags - they say it strengthens them and stops them disintegrating in a cup.
