Terra Firma in talks with Suez over 1.5 bln stg counter bid for Biffa

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Private equity firm Terra Firma is in talks
with French industrial group Suez to launch a 1.5 bln stg counter offer for the
waste management company Biffa PLC, said The Daily Telegraph quoting sources
familiar with the situation.
Earlier this month Biffa's board accepted a formal 350 pence-a-share offer
valuing the company at 1.2 bln stg from a private equity consortium comprising
Montagu and Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), an investment group backed by
General Electric.
However, The Daily Telegraph today said that Guy Hands' Terra Firma is now
in advanced negotiations with Suez to form a powerful consortium planning a
rival bid for Biffa.
Sources familiar with the situation said Suez has also held talks with
several other private equity firms, including Montagu, to launch a joint offer
for Biffa.
Despite recommending Montagu and GIP's offer, Biffa also said in early
February that it had been contacted by third parties potentially interested in
submitting an alternative bid proposal.

Glad to know someone else is out there Pete. Been scouring the media, heard nothing. I'd like to know if there's a timetable for this thing. The longer it takes the more tempted I am to sell, maybe a third of my stake, at the present price. I see it as a gamble, pure and simple. There's just know information out there I can find. Strange days indeed. This year, hugh losses on sound companies, Americas heading for their first black president and Lenny Henry's back on the BBC. Anything could happen.......... Still holding.........

I am holding BIFF, SKS, NVE & PEC as I like this sector very much. Looks like it has come alive with approaches for this one & Novera. Could be alot of decent value to come out of all these plays over the coming year.

Article in FT about "Gems hide in a load of rubbish" mentions recent takeover activity for obvious reasons, mentions a few stocks and a couple of micro stocks that could shoot up in value in this sector, namely Augean (AUG) & Prometheus Energy (PEC) What do you guys think about these ones, anyone had a look yet?

It described Biffa as a unique business with plenty of interest from several suitors. I'm inclined to see this through to the end, only expected 3.50 so any more is a bonus. And if its in the Mail, its a dead cert ....they never get it wrong ! Still holding........

Point taken, but who knows? I wouldn't buy at this level. I'm gambling a 15p drop on maybe a 25p gain. Lack of news doesn't help. Still holding....
