Oh dear, oil & gas production is prone to problems of all sorts! Political unrest in Egypt, not sure what in Norway (but it can't be political unrest), and reduced production in US because shale gas has been a great success!! At least their 2 major strategic thrusts seem to be on plan (LNG & Brazil) and there has not been an accident. I'm hanging on.

Some minor positive news. LONDON--Ophir Energy PLC (OPHR.LN), an exploration company, focused on oil and gas prospects primarily in Africa, Monday announced the successful results of the Mkizi-1 well in Block 1, Tanzania which has resulted in a new gas discovery. MAIN FACTS: -The Mkizi-1 well was drilled by the Deepsea Metro I drillship and was located in 1,301 meters water depth, between the Mzia and Jodari discoveries in Block 1. The well encountered gas pay in three reservoir intervals within a Tertiary aged stacked channel complex. -Total net pay was 33 meters and reservoir quality was high with all three intervals exhibiting excellent porosities and permeabilities. -Estimates for the mean recoverable resource from the discovery are in-line with Ophir's pre-drill expectations of 0.6 TCF. -The Deepsea Metro I drillship will now move on to drill two appraisal wells, including a drill stem test or DST, on the Pweza discovery in Block 4. This will be the first DST on the series of Block 4 discoveries, following on from the successful tests in Block 1 on Mzia and Jodari. -Ophir holds 40% of Blocks 1, 3 and 4. BG Group PLC (BG.LN) operates with 60%.

Barclays. We believe that these results will go a long way to supporting expectations of a sharp improvement in top-line momentum over course of the rest of the year. This recovery, coupled with double-digit growth in 2014 and a less demanding valuation than has historically been the case, leads us to believe that the shares are extremely well placed to perform over the next 12 months. We reiterate our Overweight rating and a price target of 1,350p/share.

Good news :- estimated 30% more resources LONDON--BG Group PLC (BG.LN) Friday raised its estimate for total gross recoverable resources of natural gas from its Tanzania discoveries to around 13 trillion cubic feet following its eighth consecutive find off the East African country's coast. The increase of the estimate from 10 trillion cubic feet underscores the region's importance as one of the energy industry's hottest new areas. Neighboring Mozambique with its discoveries of giant offshore natural gas fields aims to export its first cargoes of liquefied natural gas by 2018. Analysts say the region is well placed to serve growing energy demand in Asian markets. The mounting volume of gas discoveries off the coast of East Africa has already stimulated a wave of multi-billion dollar acquisitions in projects in Mozambique. BG Group said it had its eighth consecutive gas discovery offshore Tanzania in July, with the Ngisi-1 exploration well located in Block 4. The Ngisi well is the first to penetrate a reservoir section adjacent to the previously announced Pweza and Chewa discoveries in Block 4, opening up a new play in the tertiary formation of the northern block. BG Group is in the process of selecting a site for an onshore liquefied natural gas plant and said that process was progressing well. The capacity of the terminal will be determined by further exploration and appraisal results across the company's three offshore blocks.

Agree less severe than forecast. How will the market react? IMO share price will not move much at the opening.

IMO BG is an investment for the patient. It's from 2015 onwards that production really starts to ramp-up (Brazil & QCLNG). With divestment of non-core assets and strong cashflows from current production, I think the balance sheet will be OK. I'm perfectly prepared to wait & buy on dips when others are impatient.

Analysts expect BG's profits to be 82p per share in the coming year. This estimate means that, compared to today's share price of 1,097p, the market is valuing BG Group's shares on a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 13.3. Looking ahead, consensus expectations then call for BG's earnings to jump to 96p per share for 2014. Reflecting the company's improved cash flows, analysts expect BG Group's 18.3p dividend in the coming year to be hiked to 19.8 pence per share the year after, 12% annualised dividend growth. Even with that rate of dividend growth though, yielding less than 1.8% based on today's share price, BG is unlikely to attract many income-minded investors. 14-Jan-13 Morgan Stanley Equal-weight 1,048.00p 1,300.00p 1,170.00p Reiteration 07-Jan-13 Credit Suisse Neutral 1,032.00p 1,300.00p 1,215.00p Reiteration I think fears were also mounting that the group's balance sheet was not strong enough to cope with all the investment required to bring its plans to completion should energy prices weaken. So we should be ok for now, but we may need someone to buy us out... Some please bid!
