18/7/2006 07:21 | Good post Clarity - Clarity - 16 Jul'04 - 14:19 - 1 of 362 There's a lot of rumour in the US Bulletin Boards about the integrity of these guys ? If the US Boards are to be believed they pay customers poorly, they have a "Gentlemans Club" in the office and the lead man a Mr Kiplan isnt even mentioned in the Prospectus (which I havent seen). Alledgedly he is linked to dodgy people. Usually there's no smoke without fire so I'd urge initial caution. | newton
18/7/2006 01:13 | the bosses in jail, it don't look good, the punters will desert, what was this tipped at again? | cornelious billy bee
17/7/2006 22:53 | I do not see were any of this affects other companies mbaxter as it essentially claims this is a US company that has broken several laws. no other betting company is mentioned anywhere in the reported text. The indictment alleges that Gary Kaplan started his gambling enterprise via operation of a sportsbook in New York City in the early 1990s. After Kaplan was arrested on New York state gambling charges in May 1993, Kaplan moved his betting operation to Florida and eventually offshore to Costa Rica. According to the indictment, BetonSports.com, the most visible outgrowth of Kaplan's sports bookmaking enterprise, misleadingly advertised itself as the "World's Largest Legal and Licensed Sportsbook." The indictment also alleges that Kaplan failed to pay federal wagering excise taxes on more than $3.3 billion in wagers taken from the United States and seeks forfeiture of $4.5 billion from Kaplan and his co-defendants, as well as various properties. | chef
17/7/2006 22:20 | It looks like the allegations are that the company originated in the USA and as a result should have paid US taxes on its profits and they then moved everything out of the country etc. SBT, PRTY, etc have not done anything as such and are UK incorporated companies this looks even more a pure BSS issue especially when you note the telephone companies have been issued orders only against BSS who started in the US and allegedly paid no taxes and then moved equipment around before going offshore | chef
17/7/2006 22:17 | Hi Chef. Situation not quite as clear cut as you suggest. See for example: | mbaxter
17/7/2006 22:12 | Here more details. Very bad news for BOS. Will have to wait and see the impact on the rest of the sector. Seems they had it in for Kaplan for sometime, however the indictment trumpets the more general wire act. Perhaps Blair could negotiate a prisoner swap. | miamisteve |
