I wonder what the expression” the project awaits the delivery of relevant information by the promoter to the Spanish authorities “ means ? In a press release on 15th October Berkeley reported that they had supplied all outstanding information required by the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council. I am surprised that the author of the original article was not aware of this. I guess this is an example of yet more misinformation and mischief in Spain?

Google tranlation of key part of the above.
"At the meeting, the Spanish representative provided information on the Almaraz nuclear power plant and responded to "all the questions and petitions presented by the Portuguese authorities" on the matter, in addition to presenting a "meticulous" location of the Uranium Retortillo.

"At the moment, there is no authorization to exploit the mines and the project awaits the delivery of relevant information by the promoter to the Spanish authorities. It was assured that Portugal will be part, through notification and consultation, of all the following steps "the statement said.

Also link giving location of proposed mine to the Portuguese boarder -

IMO th e timeline has just lengthened significantly due to cross boarder implications.

It does seem a very unusual situation Nick, when a company is given an exploration license and proves up a resource then the exploitation license is pretty much nailed on but apparently not so in this case.
I posted here a couple of months ago warning what I had been told by a Portuguese national, he said it was a massive gamble because in his opinion the mine will never be built.
He said that there is massive objections to it ever going into production because of contamination to water supplies and animals and cancer clusters with people living around uranium mines.
I misunderstood what he said about uranium and the war and wrongly assumed he meant the Germans were mining it at Salamanca when he was actually referring to the Americans who sourced it from the Belgian Congo and to a lesser extent USA and Canada but due to dated mining techniques and poor health and safety there was massive contamination.
It would be fair to say that the people around Salamanca and also the Spanish government have researched it and are clearly worried about the possibility of contamination.
At the time he warned me of this the share price was in the 40p region and it would appear his warning was valid.
He said if it did go into production then it would be many multiples of where it is now but in his opinion a HUGE gamble.
I am not a holder here but I’ve had BKY on my watch list for way over a year.
IF the exploitation license is ever granted then this stock will rocket and I’ll pile in feet first but without the license then I’m afraid that what FSAwatcher is telling you will come to fruition.
It sounds like it may be a very long drawn case.

What's actually happened here?

Years and much money spent developing a project that isn't being allowed to happen?
Or is it more complex than that?

How long is a piece of string? Worth bearing in mind the share price is at a ten year low. The major zona 7 discovery and Berkeley's cash resources stand the company in good stead. It can afford to wait. It has strong local support for the mine's development and the PSOE should not want to punch its constituents in the face. At the macro level Spain has one of the highest costs of energy in Europe and, whatever some of the Greens may say, nuclear power produces clean energy. Though deeply divided on this issue the Government will be under pressure to decide on pure economic grounds. The risk reward ratio is high, but, at this level, the share price upside is much more favourable than the downside. The company could sell out to someone like Areva which provides 80% of French power requirements and would have more clout.

Will this large holder continue to sell?? What news this has turned out to be...glad I sold at 49p and 39p after briefly buying back in. Still its tempting to buy a few as a complete punt on the licence....just how long will u have to wait is the only thing bothering me

The Greens have no influence over the CSN. The CSN decision, now likely to be delayed for at least a couple of years, is binding if the decision is negative, and if positive leaves discretion to the government. The Spanish government is not divided. One party the PSOE is in power and may survive until this parliament officially ends in 2021 or it could possibly be forced to call elections earlier. At present they are ahead in opinion polls. No one who has been paying attention to Spanish press comment will be surprised at the situation in which Berkeley finds itself. Blaming the Greens is simply absurd scapegoating and has meant that many investors have misunderstood the extent to which permitting progress is blocked.

Well, all todays's Spanish press have picked up on the europa press/EFE story that the government is to carry out a study on health effects on populations living close to (previous) uranium installations so it is not surprising. Shareholders may prefer having a few years added on for this additional hurdle if some light can eventually be seen at the end of the tunnel, rather that a sudden death. The company certainly will! RNS tomorrow? Probably not.

Surprised that no-one has mentioned the major article about Berkeley Energia in today's FT. Page 20 headed " Berkeley battles to launch Spanish uranium project".

Not everyday that Berkeley gets half a page in the FT.

The article contains the blunt words that : " One rival miner said that the Omani's had "backed the right race but the wrong horse" ".

Yesterday saw a massive increase in certain uranium stocks such as Cameco +5%, Denison +8% and Energy Fuels up an a astonishing 18%.

One notes Berkeley's significant share price decline today, despite yesterday's generalised massive rally for uranium stocks.

Good luck to Berkeley . It seems they need it.

Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of credit cards that were designed in the 1950s. The system uses its own currency, the Q, and to get people to start using the system once it's ready they are allocating Qs for free to people that sign up now (the amount drops as more people join - so better to join early). Signing up is free and they only ask for your name and an email address. There's nothing to lose but if this payment system becomes a world leading payment method your Qs can be worth a lot. If you missed getting bitcoin seven years ago, you wouldn't want to miss this. Here is my invite link: https://initiativeq.com/invite/rI9LPSo27 This link will stop working once I'm out of invites. Let me know after you registered, because I need to verify you on my end.
