23/6/2005 19:45 | The bid talks are called off and the price falls a massive 3.4%. LOL!! Apparently the potential bidder(s) didn't like the (historical) pension liabilities. What a surprise!! Pension liabilities not withstanding, I thought the results looked fairly okayish, given all the doom and gloom in the retail sector generally. * They are still making a profit, despite the doom and gloom * The debt is reduced * The divi is maintained (although currently not fully covered) I'm hangin' on in there | timbo003
20/6/2005 18:39 | Encouraging news today concerning the possible (probable?) takeover of James Beattie by House of Fraser, I'm surprised the Beale share price didn't respond with an upward leap, I may buy a few more tomorrow. | timbo003
09/6/2005 20:57 | The Walton store location is truely, truely awful, so good ridance. It's good to see that Beale got a good lump of cash for selling the lease. | timbo003
09/6/2005 08:26 | wat an unfortunate heading for the rns "for closure" | hybrasil
23/3/2005 19:01 | The price action today suggests to be that the tentative takeover talks could be off. Well, that's fine by me if the offer was going to be under a quid, I'm hangin' on in there! | timbo003
22/3/2005 17:46 | Well, that was an encouraging AGM statement today, but no direct reference to how the potential bid for the company is coming along, so I assume things are moving along slowly. | timbo003
11/3/2005 22:30 | Well finely they have come good. | washbrook
11/3/2005 16:35 | Ah that's better, the market seems to be coming around to my way of thinking. 100p+ / share is essential as far as I'm concerned, otherwise, I'm happy to hold and collect the divis (and the 10% shareholder discount). | timbo003
11/3/2005 07:42 | Shareholders are so disenchanted with the company's performance over the years - and these were supposed to be good years for retailers - that they won't need much persuading to ditch them. But I would have thought that if the bid was only 82p the board would have rejected it at the outset. If it goes ahead around 90-95p seems more like it. | alfred
10/3/2005 21:03 | Alfred Many thanks for that. In all my years (too many before you ask) of investing in the stock market, I cannot remember a single case of when a company was bought out for less than NAV, so I'm inclined to disagree with shares mag. Surely the non exec directors would reject any bid under NAV. After all they are supposed to represent the interest of all shareholders. | timbo003
09/3/2005 08:12 | shares mag says..."shareholders dreaming of a further premium to the current share price may be disappointed as Beale is not in a strong negotiating position........with Beale's abysmal trading record over recent years and weak outlook, an offer above 82p is unlikely.....the net asset value is not a good guide to the likely bid price." Various disparaging comments made about Beales | alfred
09/3/2005 05:55 | Alfred what figure do they think. My guess is£1/1.10 | hybrasil
08/3/2005 21:10 | alfred Thanks for that, any chance of a brief summary of the shares mag comments. | timbo003
08/3/2005 19:20 | timbo..shares magazine doesn't share your optimism | alfred
08/3/2005 18:11 | I really am surprised that there is so little interest in these given the current circumstances. I assume that the directors will only entertain an offer for the company which is NAV or higher which implies an offer price of at least 120p. Considering you can pick the shares up for around 85p, they still look very cheap. | timbo003
06/3/2005 14:01 | I see that the Bournemouth Echo thinks is the potential bidder is Lawdene also: | timbo003
28/2/2005 17:42 | Just come back from a weeks hols, to this nice surprise! I have to agree that Lawdene/Hoopers are the most likely potential purchaser, and any bid would have to be at NAV or above, so we are talking £1+ per share if it goes through. I appear to have been quite fortunate with my timing on this one, BAE have been on my stock watch for a couple of years, what makes the current situation particularly sweet is that all 5000 of my shares have been purchased with divis received elsewhere, so I'm in for free (sort of) | timbo003
26/2/2005 08:55 | I had a good look at these and have a stake nothing like I had. I started buying in 6 months ago, but having visited a number of the stores sold. Take out price should be north of £1. It has to be asset value. The only possible purchaser is Lawdene. But then I was wrong about selling my shares so dont take my word for it. | hybrasil
19/2/2005 17:06 | Investors chronicle puts these in top of their recovery aim stocks. It gave the share price on Friday a bit of a filip and I expect they will go up again on Monday. | hybrasil
26/1/2005 10:25 | Hold this BAE shares, downside limited, because net asst about 100p+, and debt lower. but P/E is high, may be some one like to take this company private, bid ?? | ang5
24/1/2005 18:18 | hybrasil I guess despite the tiny profit, they were still very cash flow positive (mainly due to a reduction in stock levels), so why not pay a divi? I'm slightly concerned about the increased pension liability. Given that stock markets have been rising, I expect to see pension liabilties go down, not up, let's hope it's a one off! Anyway, given that we are probably in the worst high street recession for a decade, I reckon it was a reasonable performance, and I suspect things are likely to get better in the medium term, accordingly I indulged in a small top up today, (1.4K shares, so total now is 5K shares), paid for by divis received elsewhere. | timbo003
24/1/2005 16:48 | how can the directors possibly approve a dividend with those figures? Its the old story- family shareholders | hybrasil
03/12/2004 20:36 | The Bedford store is in a fantastic location, right in the middle of the town centre. Recently refurbished and looks busy enough. Bought at 66.7p | athertg |
