Just looked at PP to S3 for Monday, 172 points, if I were to add 10 points it would be a £1820 loss at stop of 182 points.

Obviously ridiculous, so I'll do a standard 25 points stop (max loss £250) to all Son of Somnus Order to Opens.

Ken, what about Son of Somnus (Long at S3, close at PP)

After getting caught out twice today trying to guess Ftse bottom, I intend to do an Order to Open after you post Somnus numbers every day, Son of Somnus or SOS, £10 a point. It costs nothing, takes a few seconds, as you say will only open once in a blue moon but should almost guarantee to make money if it opens,(just under £400 today)

But what stop it's got to be big enough not to get closed out (like I was twice today) maybe 10 points more than S3 to PP

Thanks for the offer Ken - its your system SOMNUS with enhancements. It will not need testing besides I'm lazy (an important aspect of intelligence). The guy who I have asked to simplify the process is a genius and a tester; a true IT guru. I hope he accepts the challenge because if he does I have no doubt the product will be quality.

Thanks Denbos, what are you going to call this new system? Actually it's not as silly as it might sound and although you wouldn't get many trades in a year, I suspect that you would make money by closing the trade at the close.

It sounds like a back-test job for the weekend. Do you want a copy of my back-test spreadsheet? If you do post me an e-mail address at 5.00pm and I'll let you know when I've got it (the file's about 3meg)

KB post 621
Does anybody know of a system that say's Go Long if it falls to S3 and close at the PP?

Simples - post a trade with the rest in the morning to open at S3 and close at PP!! It can only happen if it gets to S3.

There is a beauty in the simplicity of your thinking KB - SOMNUS rules ok!! Looking at removing graft and possible emotion from the system - will advise when done and send you a copy.

Robert - BARC opened @ 280p and I'm amazed that it wasn't lower in view of what's happened to the FTSE.

I tried this on the Free Somnus thread and it either doesn't interest anyone or has not been seen. Are there any takers on here or Ken's official somnus thread?

Original post follows:-

There has been a lot of talk about the quality of the daily data and the need to create a valid set, say from the minute data available to download in small chunks from dukascopy (on livecharts).

I think b1gman2 would like to get to grips with some serious backtesting with a full minute history. I would certainly like a copy of the minute data for a similar method to somnus but not quite so ambitious as Ken's.

Could I suggest that to lighten the amount of work involved that say five of us agree to take on the task of downloading just one years worth of data each and at least we would have a fair amount of 'time' data to backtest with.

Any volunteers?
