ludlowe, I have a possible solution to your valid complaint.

You will see at the top of the BT.A thread there is a link to a phone-friendly version of that thread, similarly for BARC:

It is also useful for any Spob-created thread eg:

Someone asked about minute data on this thread for somnus FTSE100 system:

That's Sept-Oct 1 minute data from livecharts (doesn't have 16.30 close, as it ends at 15.29 which is actually 16.29!). I think this means it's useless data!

This sheet contains better minute data from ADVFN, but I only started collecting that on 8/10/10. This sheet has my method for calculating an accurate backtest from the minute data:

This is my full 1984-2010 backtest sheet, using daily data from ADVFN:

Hope it helps someone.

Theta,

BerkshireClaret mentioned a good idea concerning ATR and trailing stops, the only problem is this requires monitoring and breaks the mechanical approach. And unless you wait to make sure you're enough in profit to cover the spread, which by that time the price action may have gone against you, you can lose 1 or 2 points which adds up significantly over time.

Maybe another approach is to jump out incrementally. E.g 75% when S2 reached, with the remaining 25% turning at the respective midpoint. Or two trades in the same direction but with different stake/limit calculated to take advantage of different ranges?

A variation could be that the last 25% could have a tight stop that may get hit easily, but is still the profit that would've been the original 100%. On the occasions the movement is strong you gain the extra profit.

I agree with a few here, the headers are pointless if out of date, and all those pull down charts, why?

Hi Ken,

Sorry to be pedantic, but I'm updating my journal and wanted clarification.

You now use the different sources for HLC to calculate the PP's, but on your link for the last five trading days, the 'old' HLC figures are posted. Is this just until you update your excel or do you record the official data still?

Monty, same old story, same old images, likely to result in same old rise back above 300p rather than fall much further!
