"Barclaycard buoyed by August bank holiday spending surge.."

It doesn't matter how much you spend when it is debt

Too many people don't understand the difference between a want and need.People seem to have this view that they have a right to live beyond their means- you can but you have to face the consequences..

Either Renaissance have been guilty of evasion or they have not. If not, then they do not need to settle anything. If they are, then the question is whether Barclays were complicit in the evasion.

I suspect not.

tax avoidance is a duty. Tax evasion is what is illegal.

Barclays was a lender who helped Renaissance structure tax avoidance transactions . Renaissance have just agreed $7bn US tax settlement. Read across?

idandy: not unusual for the FTSE to enjoy a "catch-up day" when the US is closedHowever the NFP data letdown sets a difficult context going into their long weekend. Let's see next week.

Other than lending to housebuilders, houseowners, HMG and private equity where are banks growing revenue as fintech and the like of Klarnia attack traditional markets? Overall banks are moving to wealth management and owning rented accommodation.

yep 132.9 ... be nice to see it at 150.

Wonder what it will take to see Barc convincingly push through the 190p resistance...guess we need 186p to become support first !

Ftse all over the place and barc choosing to track it... non farms seemed to have little impact. I would like to see a 187+p close but as the US enters a long weekend who knows....

Manics : a 2 handle would be a long overdue share price ... fingers crossed for a good September !!

Non Farm figure for August is over 500k short of forecast. It could be a signal to Fed that USA is some way from tapering or rate hikes?
