Early riser or doing night shift?...but yes have to agree where is the downturn?...unless if it is a disguised/invisible downturn...seeing plenty of Mercs, BMWs, Audis and SUVs on the roads... hellscream10 Mar '21 - 05:15 - 6512 of 6535 0 2 0 how can this be classed as a downturn, while millions of people are now better off??? house prices booming, people working from home £6000 a year better off, people on welfare getting pay raises. this is a boom not a downturn. ive never seen a downturn where people are begging for it to stay.

diku : ha ha .. I wish. As with any form of gambling... you also need a little dose of lady luck. Post covid was almost a given that the climb would come...now the question is how far will she climb back ?

Habito launches 40-year fixed rate mortgage Habito has launched the UK's longest-ever fixed rate mortgage at 40 years. Its new 'Habito One' range will offer fixed rates between 10 and 40 years with rates starting from 2.99%, all without early repayment charges or exit fees. https://www.financialreporter.co.uk/mortgages/habito-launches-40-year-fixed-rate-mortgage.html Banks have treated our housing market like a Ponzi scheme.. "What the banking system has developed is an uninterrupted growth model which shares a similar risk profile as a Ponzi or pyramid scheme by lending ever-larger sums of debt to homebuyers and property investors year after year. If this growth model is interrupted, however, and banks cannot expand their mortgage books further, housing price inflation halts and will then plunge."

Barclays (BCS) Plans Job Cuts at Corporate & Investment Bank Unit Barclays is mulling the reduction of around 60 jobs. These include some senior roles in the United States and other countries. Escalating costs have prompted management to resume these job cuts. The bank’s corporate and investment bank unit reported a 22% rise in total income last year. However, the pandemic-induced mayhem and subsequent economic slowdown hurt Barclays’s lending business. Further, the company expects loan growth to remain muted this year as well. https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/barclays-bcs-plans-job-cuts-at-corporate-investment-bank-unit-2021-03-09

Barc seems to want to consolidate in the 170's for now so as I said before, maybe a little more patience is required on my part for a small top up. My rose tinted glasses still see a 2 at the start but she may have to work a bit harder now as we are in precovid territory... the buyback 'should' offer support to the share price and this in turn could be the base for a step up towards £2 ??

PRBSHARES: BARC can start the buying any time they like now. The buy back principle is in the public domain. They must report purchases as they go -Transaction in Own Shares RNS's will be retrospective as is normal. Will be interesting to see sizing as I say.

...so we can say to date the rise might in part be due to sentiment toward the buyback, but not the actual mechanic of the buyback.

We are now double digit March. Still no Transaction in Own Shares RNS. Should see the first of them this month. It will be interesting to see what allocation of the £700m spend is committed to this opening period.
