Well done Lordship, you see the stable knows more than I do.

For the horsey people

Lordship is now 22/1 on Betfair and 11/2 for a place. I've backed him to get a place as I stated previously, but the stable are suggesting ½pt e/w.

Leylandie - Thanks you for pointing out the error. There was an error in my code which said
100 / (R2 - R1) which as you say = 12.5
It actually said 100 / (R2 - R1) + 1 which = 13.5
My intention was to have INT(100 / (R2 - R1)) + 1 which = 13 as displayed in my spreadsheet.

The rounding was intended to save producing stakes such as 13.49935 which in my spreadsheet would be displayed as 13 as I don't display the decimals.

The actual result of the BARC trades was long -£221 and short +£55.90, which is -£165.10, somewhat better than the result displayed.

Yes I know I haven't told the whole story, but I have given you the correct result. It's down to the number of times I produced Friday's results trying to improve the quality of the display and in the final copy I failed to deduct the profit on the short. You will see that the jpg used on Friday is a little smaller that the gifs used the rest of the week.

Don't forget - on the plus side- stunning profit results in a few days time and announcement of a very sizeable dividend. We'll be approaching £4 in this time frame.

Morning Ken,

Looking at Fridays PP trade, how did barclays make a loss of 238, as i understood your system, by going long and short, you would limit the loss to a max of around 200. Was the stake for the long > 12.5 (100/(R2-R1)?

Dear All,

Qataris timed it perfectly - so did I - thanks to my Qatari friend.

Planning on piling a substantial "lot" in the Black Beauty, expect 600p!

K38 and g2,

If you look at the index first, its not yet held sub 5000, and if it dips below 5080 (as now) I would consider buying moderately.

With barc, with us in circa the 340 to 370 sort of break even level I would say that pretty soon we'll see a move back into that range quite soon, I may be wrong but imo within the next couple of weeks. This does depend upon a few factors

Mainly, news we are not aware of, index suction down although like I said above I think thats going to flatten very soon, finally sentiment issues around the banking sector as a whole.

Also those who bought around 314 will be selling in the 320s' which will slow movement

On the positive side you have to remember why we bought and those factors still exist as follows..

Continually, almost daily reiterated or rerated 'up' buy prices, these range from 374 to 400s'.
The fact that BARC is now (soon to be announced methinks) officially the biggest inv bank in the world.
The Qataris, I believe, still retain a good sized share allocation with no intention of selling, and indeed even the 'sage of omaha' hasn't sold anything yet I understand.
It remains one of the best , in fact one of the only two decent reliable banks in the UK, the other being HSBC

So, given that nothing above has changed, and given that we're being tugged by temporary factors I would say stay put, sit it out and concentrate on other things in life until its back to where we want it.

More of a concern, and it sounds silly now I know, is do you sell once it reaches the b/e point..It may be a decision we regret if it carries on chugging past into the 500s'!

All imohi etc etc

Have a good weekend all!

I've just had an e-mail asking about Lordship tomorrow.

He's there by now and the rains have arrived: The going is Soft (Precautionary Inspection 7.00am), which suggests that they might not race in which case we're landed with a lot of expense for nothing. If they run there are 2 other horses in the field that like it soft so he won't be the good thing he was last time, but we need a contribution towards the expenses so he better be in the first 3. I'll be hoping to get about 3/1 for a place.

He's entered for Catterick and then Doncaster next week, so we should earn some money from one of them.

I have just received a call from my mate in the city, BARC are reportedly bust,

it is unconfirmed but he knows one of the directors at BARC and he saw them crying
last night in a bar and heard this figure mentioned. I cannot confirm this from any other sources, does anyone here know if this is true?
