12/1/2004 11:54 | The US Administration does seem complacent on the dollar weakerness. The US does have a larger economy than China and most of the Asian economies. However the idea that US exports will increase and narrow the trade gap could be thrawted by the fact that the Chinese have spent the last 10 or so years improving the quality of their products, the US hasn't made as much effort as the Chinese to improve quality. It is a mistake to think that price is the only issue when trying to improve sales of products in world markets as the saying goes "there will always be a market for quality products". With a rising oil price the US may find it hard to compete on price anyway. If the budget overruns on past big technology projects are anything to go by the soaring costs of a Mars mission could be what forces the US Treasury to eventually face reality, or maybe the market will force the "Judgement day" on the dollar before then as even the Asian countries dump their paper dollar assets which seem to be worth less every day. Dangerous times indeed! | gedy
12/1/2004 11:37 | Suppose you are in debt. Inflation will reduce the debt's value. The dollar decline, I think, is a deliberately induced reduction of debt comparable to inflation; the US debt (provided it's financed meantime by Asia et al.) will be reduced, but a RELATIVE increase in inflation numbers must surely follow. It looks like a clever gamble. The US is enjoying a similar surge to the UKs on leaving the ERM when the £ fell. | ramillar
12/1/2004 10:32 | Big M. Wednesday looks quite well starred to me. We have loads of UK retailers reporting (MKS DXNS etc) which should set a negative tone. then in the us we have the trade balance, Yahoo, apple etc. might the trade balance do it? | theape
12/1/2004 10:26 | Bigmolly, I think the US Government are letting $ ride, because while investors think weak $ good for exports, Dow will rise. No consideration for long term damage. They will do anything to get re elected. The 2 charts are inextricably linked at the moment. But agree with your sentiment. When reality hits, ie US still cant compete with prices of manufacturered goods in Far East. Then, we will see!!! | david2000
12/1/2004 10:03 | My view is still that we are heading into a $ based currency crisis, I cannot believe the complancency of the USA administartion, and as the current account deficit worsens, I know let's start a new space programme...that's a good idea... PMEAS what's your views and others of course? | bigmolly

10/1/2004 10:21 | JOBS NEWS... The Problem (as I see it) ... is that JOBS ARE BEING CREATED as a result of the Big Growth in the US economy, but they are mainly in China. When the (sleepy) economists in the Administration wake up and realise that there "hell for leather" encouragement of wreckless spending is NOT WORKING, there may be a fast reversal in policies. Friday's news was only the first crack of dawn | energyi

09/1/2004 22:56 | Posted this over on Mike Walters site earlier, so will reproduce it here.A bit long for you guys by the look of the thread, but ignore it and miss out on a nice oppotunity. As you will know from my posts over the years, i am very pessimitic on the whole in regards to the outlook of the wests economy, due to a great many influencing factors, far to many to list here, but if you trawl the archives you can read my views on which way the world is heading according to Gekko...(gold at 600 dollars an ounce, the dollar 2to 1 for the pound, financial meltdown of the blue chip markets have all been well highlighted in the past.# Now,thats my opinion, and my fellow investors, you are entightled to yours, but, if my observations are to be believed then sept 11th 2001 has thrown up some very intersting investment ideas, of which 2 i will discuss with you further on. First, after the trade towers, Bush and his merry band of advisers rushed through congress a whole host of new laws and regulations, erasing basic freedoms and a liscense to intrude into the lives of any American they saw fit, under the umbrella of national security, and with fear and desperation in the hearts and minds of most of the west, there was no oppposition to these new laws(home land security, patriot act, enemy combatant)to name but a few. The public, as they always do in a moment of crisis and fear, give there power away to the authorities, as long as they are made to believe that the new laws will somehow make them and there loved ones safe. It works on the principle of PROBLEM-REACTION-SOL Create or allow a problem to happen, wait for the public to react, as they always will, then offer a solution to the very problem they created/or they used as a stepping stone to implement this new order faschist global state, which is basicaly what is the long term plan, imo.!(All truth passes through 3 stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident) again, my opinion only, but one which is being shared by millions the world over now. I know this will seem un patriotic, but i have studied under ground economies and the darker side of political warfare, so i feel i have the right to express these views,..and, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country. Ok, we now come to good part, how to place yourself into the sector which will benefit from all these new laws/intrusive surveillance etc. The first company is called Applied digital solutions(adsx). Applied Digital Solutions is an advanced technology development company that focuses on a range of life-enhancing, personal safeguard technologies, early warning alert systems, miniaturized power sources and security monitoring systems combined with the comprehensive data management services required to support them. Through its Advanced Technology Group, the Company specializes in security-related data collection, value-added data intelligence and complex data delivery systems for a wide variety of end users including commercial operations, government agencies and consumers. Applied Digital Solutions owns a majority position in Digital Angel Corporation (AMEX: DOC). ( which is the really important part of the equation) For more information, visit the Company's website at www.adsx.com About Digital Angel Corp. Digital Angel Corporation develops and deploys sensor and communications technologies that enable rapid and accurate identification, location tracking, and condition monitoring of high-value mobile assets. Applications for the Company's products include identification and monitoring of pets, fish and livestock through its patented implantable microchips; location tracking and message monitoring of vehicles and aircraft in remote locations through systems that integrate GPS and geosynchronous satellite communications; and monitoring of asset conditions such as temperature and movement, through advanced miniature sensors. The piece de resistance for this company though is the veri chip, which is implanted into the body of Human beings and linked via satellite to huge computers which track and monitor the where abouts of the individual.(THE AMERIACN MILITARY PERSONAL ARE ALREADT BEING CHIPPED VOLUNTARILY). But, the us government want this technology to become law in the future, Again, hard to believe, but i have done the research to back these claims, its all out there, one only has to dig around to find it.(Needless to say, you wont find it on sky, cnn, fox news, the bbc or any other media outlet which is governed and edited by the same few who basically control the likes of you and i, through the aforementioned news feeds. I recommend you go to the web sites of these companies and have a look, .... I suggest that you have a look at the varuious announcemnets both these companies have recently made and then decide if either are for your portfolio.. (locate up 28% today as it happends in a market down 100 points) Good look and regards. | insideryou
