25/7/2019 15:25 | And obviously, Corbyn will never get the keys to No 10.We have millions of crazy (and stupid to be frank) people in country, but not that many :-) | chiefbrody
25/7/2019 14:01 | Wad, nought wrong with random thoughts. I cant say I know much about nationalisation, only being around to see the end of them! But, following your thoughts. How does a country "Nationalise" a company, surely they would have to buy the entire shares in issue. Then what? | ribblewader
25/7/2019 13:34 | Just a random thought as share price touches an 8 month high, can't see any HMG giving assent to a Bae takeover , but is the opposite possible ; has Corbyn considered a nationalisation of our defence companies? Would allow him more control of who to sell to. But of course that would be difficult , much easier to stand on sideline and criticise... | wad collector
24/7/2019 17:10 | Canada releases fighter RFP, Canada has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for 88 new combat aircraft to replace its ageing fleet of Boeing F/A-18 (CF-18/CF-188 in national service) Hornets. "...United Kingdom for the Eurofighter Typhoon (the bid is being led by Airbus rather than BAE Systems, because of the company's stake in Canadian-based Bombardier)....." | ribblewader
24/7/2019 17:04 | or their share in Airbus. oops sold that a bit early to concentrate on military and not civil. Also at time stopped or reduced making bits for civil. Sometimes one does wonder about overall strategy. Warton could of been a British space launch. Just think they think more in terms of making redundancy instead of using the talents for different markets | ccraig69
24/7/2019 13:54 | cc, many BAE initiatives wind up in civil use. Look at the electric bus business. | ribblewader
24/7/2019 10:55 | surly much more money in civil use. | ccraig69
24/7/2019 09:19 | BAE Systems announces evolution in unmanned boat technology BAE Systems has successfully completed a series of trials on a ‘first of its kind’ autonomous boat that will allow navies to go beyond the limits of human endurance with unmanned vessels that can travel further, for longer and to more inhospitable environments. | ribblewader
23/7/2019 18:23 | Onwards and upwards! Fingers crossed. | carpingtris
23/7/2019 13:25 | going good today! | carpingtris
23/7/2019 08:10 | U.S. Navy awards BAE Systems $70 Million contract for upgraded Mk 45 gun systems BAE Systems will deliver five Mk 45 naval gun systems to the U.S. Navy under a recently issued $70.6 million contract to upgrade existing guns to the Mod 4 configuration, increasing their firepower and extending their range. | ribblewader
22/7/2019 10:26 | RIAT: How Typhoon updates put Centurion on guard for UK The past 12 months have seen a momentous shift in the UK’s combat aircraft balance, with Royal Air Force (RAF) Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4s having received new ground-attack weapons, its last Panavia Tornado GR4s retiring and the type’s successor – the Lockheed Martin F-35B – conducting its first operational missions in the Middle East. “The scale of what we had to deliver was incredible, integrating three major new weapons onto an aircraft at the same time, bringing together work divided into 70 different contracts, and doing it all in just 47 months,” says Andy Flynn, Eurofighter and Centurion capability director at BAE Systems Air. With the carefully planned run-down of the Tornado GR4 force allowing no option of an operational extension, he adds: “The consequences of not delivering on time were huge.” | ribblewader
20/7/2019 16:02 | Squid, I dont think the point is being missed about partnering, the advantages are many. But that depends on Tempest GETTING to that stage. The article points out that Sweden does not have much success in selling its fighter a/c to other nations. The article appears to be saying that SAAB are looking to gain more for Gripen hardware upgrades from the software development of Tempest. "Saab CEO Håkan Buskhe described the prospect of jointly developing Britain’s notional Tempest platform as only one of several possible outcomes of the tie-up inked by the two countries’ defense ministers July 18. The lower-hanging fruit, he said, lies in Saab participating in cutting-edge research that could help boost the performance of its latest Gripen E fighter. The jet is “75 percent software,” he explained, which presents the possibility of new capabilities without major hardware changes." | ribblewader
20/7/2019 11:17 | Critical point being miss here. If not UK alone, then the programme is actually both more affordable, and politically is less susceptible to being cancelled. | squidsgone
20/7/2019 10:19 | Another view on the UK/Swedish Tempest MoU Saab banks on Gripen upgrade in new UK-Sweden warplane alliance | ribblewader
19/7/2019 19:23 | Perhaps the BBC has misread "The Conservative government pledged £2 billion, or $2.5 billion, to fund the early stages of the program, which is being led on the industry side by BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, missile maker MBDA and the UK arm of Leonardo, a key supplier of systems like the radar" Not seen anything detailing the ££ on Swedish investment..but then I am not looking. | crossing_the_rubicon
19/7/2019 18:12 | BBc NW News is saying its a £2 bln investment, but I cannot find corroboration..... Defence Secretary Penny Mordaunt and her Swedish counterpart Peter Hultqvist have signed a landmark agreement to partner on future combat air. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) commits both governments to work on a joint combat air development and acquisition programme, including the development of new concepts to meet both nations’ future requirements. | ribblewader
19/7/2019 16:10 | In there ISA addition back in ~April BA. was one to buy... they should make there minds up, lol | carpingtris
19/7/2019 13:14 | carpingtris: yes, from today's IC. They seem to be only focussed on the potential downside from Saudi problems, mostly Typhoon related, they don't really address the positive newsflow on other orders and successes. | shalder
19/7/2019 12:31 | US, UK and allies purchasing MIDS radio systems Data Link Solutions, a joint venture of BAE Systems and Collins Aerospace, has been awarded $235.6 million to produce Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) JTRS radios. | ribblewader
19/7/2019 11:58 | Further to earlier posts regarding the US Army ERCA. ERCA prototype testing to begin in October, autoloader decision still to come. Colonel John Rafferty, the head of the army’s Long-Range Precision Fires modernisation effort, spoke with reporters on 16 July about the way ahead for ERCA development. Just days earlier, the army awarded BAE Systems a USD45 million contract to help integrate the government-owned cannon onto a Paladin M109A7 self-propelled howitzer. “The earlier we bring [BAE Systems] in, the better; [and] they’re prepared to start making these things,” Col Rafferty said. | ribblewader
19/7/2019 11:48 | C_t_R Lol! | ribblewader
19/7/2019 11:44 | "UK and Sweden partner on future combat air" Been in offing for nearly two weeks! You must have missed it the first time round hence the BAe price rise of the last couple of weeks!!! Crossing_the_Rubicon Sweden joins to British next-generation fighter programme Crossing_the_Rubicon Sweden signs up to join Tempest fighter programme Crossing_the_Rubicon Sweden poised to join Britain’s Tempest fighter programme Move would give rival to Franco-German jet a much-needed boost NOTE "MBDA, the weapons company, and the UK arm of Italy’s Leonardo" So Brexit irrelevant to EU countries joining non EU nations in military projects / joint ventures! | crossing_the_rubicon |
