Definitely looking to add on weakness myself.

A potential link up with Japanese on the next stealth fighter would be a bold move too..One that might yield significant rewards with other pacific players looking to boost their airforces down the line.

My original buy in was fairly recent, around 595. I don't think it will revisit but if it does I may consider another block. It will only be buying back the bits I sold higher up.

Interest rates movement upwards will have a significant impact on the reported pension deficit .... remember rate increases haven't happened yet. My understanding is the deficit reported is against what it would cost the company to buy equivalent annuities in the market at the time of publishing.

Agreed.Meh, but outlook not too shabby.
Nice divi increase.

Plenty to look forward to imo as Defence spending is only going up, particularly in USA.

p.s Welcome fall in Pension deficit as well it seems.,..to be expected as Interest rates rise.
BAe is one of the most exposed pension front side, along with likes of BT and co.

Lord Dannatt said: 'Voyager has to rank as the worst of the Private Finance Initiative deals used extensively by the governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

'Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson must put a stop to scandals like this.'

At the Farnborough International Airshow, a 35-meter wide black plane with wafer-thin wings is suspended on a wall beside an exhibit of BAE Systems' cutting-edge space technology.

This is PHASA-35 – a high-altitude, long endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (HALE UAV), and it could stay airborne for a whole year using nothing but solar power.

The project is a collaboration between BAE Systems and Prismatic – a specialist in UAV systems and services.

Fair comment, MOD per se not the target but the Treasury driven approach to national defence where there appears to be a complete disconnect between perceptions of the threats and money available to meet them. This is then compounded by the prevalent view at Westminster (by ALL parties in recent years) that "there are no votes in defence". The current Minister of Defence is breaking new ground by even suggesting we need to spend more to meet increased threats, and by all accounts is not getting support from Hammond, so good luck with that one.

RibbleWader - "overheard a conversation from a young lady complaining about how much noise Typhoon was making. "Why do they have to make so much noise, they will never be alowed to carry passengers, flying like that"

As cmackay said, classic comedy, immediately made me think of Eric Morecambe's classic line "He'll never sell any ice creams going at that speed"

Also cmackay ref post 1164, couldn't have written that better, so very true, makes me mad to think that if I go out shopping, or on any public transport, I am possibly going to come into close proximity of these deluded air heads haha.

shalder, I was quite involved in MoD contracts/purchasing.Its not the guy doing the purchasing/contracting mucking it up. Most of the time (85% +) its the treasury not stumping up or cutting the budget, which drives "change"(increase or decrease the projects capability) or longer payment terms are requested. I was involved in the Nimrod MRA4 project, what was requested and what actually flew (yes three or four had undergone flight trials for handover to the customer) was considerably changed. Cancellation was not only down to cost, international politics came into play.

"In my experience neither politicians nor civil servants are even interested in talking about the wider national interest when it comes to the manufacturing sector."

Depressingly so.

If they were we wouldn't be in the mess we are.

Not often I find myself agreeing with Unite either.
