Over 100p away from that buyout rumour price. == "Yet a takeover bid for Aviva at a rumoured 600p would still be a stretch and a half. " https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/oct/06/aviva-takeover-amanda-blanc

Very true - the UK ISA will do more harm than good. Bloody idiots although slightly better than the bigger idiots who will takeover

Rongetsrich Yes a first You can't make investment decisions on takeover hunches!! But the higher the price goes the less likely that there will be a bid
The Times "Direct Line turns down second takeover bid from rival" Belgian offered 3% more

Article in The Times "Just Group in the spotlight for a takeover" " speculation that the specialist insurer could be the next financial services company to receive a takeover bid" "There has been a recent surge in takeover bids for London listed companies as bidders seek to capitslise on low valuations for UK quoted companies compared with overseas" Mentions Dorect Line by Aegis and Virgin money by Nationwide

....'Chief executive Amanda Blanc dismissed market speculation about a takeover for the company as “largely market chatterâ€￾.' 'LARGELY' !!!. So not completely market chatter I am totally convinced that an offer of 700p+ would be supported by the Board

Those speculating about a takeover price, adding the usual price comes to 600p+. 550p would not get the job done as only a 20% premium. 600p might.

Looking back at the take-over rumour, I still find it telling that the company decided not to comment. Some approach must have been received… just not material or advanced enough to force them to go public. Will the suitor be back with something Aviva can’t remain quiet on? I have mixed feelings on whether I want a takeover or not so a win win for me.

Had to sell a few of these on Friday close as needed to pay some bills, so there will be a takeover announced on Monday and share price will hit £6 😃.

Nice day yesterday. 3p more and it will reach takeover rumour level. With rates now in theory at peak and next move down we may see a rising SP . Good to see weather related incidents did not significantly effect Av . Hopefully something in Sunday papers to the effect Aviva is a solid buy:)

I've had 3 companies all put out excellent results or trading statement in the last week. All on very low valuations and all now lower than they were before their announcements. the UK market is a complete piss take that is exemplified by the takeover of Hotel chocolat for a 170% premium. the UK mkt is utterly pointless for the UK and is simply a vehicle to trash our companies and sell them off abroad. Diabolical. Rant over..

Something l noticed from Late October markets live (the blindspot) Ben Harrington11:52 Well insurance is a bit bland I realise but the takeover of one of Britain’s largest firms might be considered “spicyâ€￾ Izabella Kaminska11:52 Which one’s that? Ben Harrington11:52 Aviva! Izabella Kaminska11:53 Really, Aviva? Ben Harrington11:53 Yeah there has been UNCOOKED rumours circulating about an unknown bidder taking an interest in buying the whole group as the shares are currently flirting with a five year low. The talk in the market is that an American bank and a European bank are advising an rival insurance firm on possible takeover bid.

I'm not sure I follow the argument people put up about not wanting a takeover because if the price goes to say 6 gbp from 4 gbp, the yield reduces from c. 7.86 to 5.25 percent (all other things being equal). Therefore, if a third party bids 6gbp I only have to find an alternative share yielding c. 5.25 to replace it (notwithstanding CGT on the sale before reinvestment). I would miss the yield from Aviva, but would gain from having more money to invest in another share. Yes, if someone came and bid for Av. Lgen, Phnx or MNG at a 20 percent premium, I would be pretty annoyed (though accepting that I cannot do much about it) but if someone comes and bids at a 50 percent premium, I would be happy to accept, take the cash and reinvest in another opportunity.

Very low volume, so much for three companies wanting to takeover:)

Makinbuks yes I think I read somewhere that we could be expecting AV to dispose of their China and Indian JV's which could raise another £1b. On the takeover rumours that were circling the other week I've been trying to come up with a possible US company that could be interested in taking on AV, the only one that I've come up with after a bit of research was AIG which was rumoured to be interested in taking them over I think last year, It seems funny that when the rumours circulated the other week is not long after AV announced that they were taking over AIG Life UK, maybe there were some informal discussion about a possible takeover that did not lead to a formal offer but then ended with AV taking AIG Life UK. maybe ...
