Villarich - phew glad you sorted that one out haha

uppompeii - FWIW the pound is usually weak when the dollar is strong. As you said I also see some long term benefit to companies with overseas earnings regardless of where we end up with Brexit !!

And if that cash comes back to the UK with a weak £, even better.

I'm not sure they'd need to passport anything. The European businesses are their own entities, selling products under local laws, br they driven by EU laws or not. They trade as separate cells and send cash back to the group.

I would have thought having such a large presence in Europe would be a plus under a hard Brexit. They can headquarter anywhere and get through passporting issues, no?

I think AV should be OK as it has proper subsidiaries in France and Ireland and it’s not just a name plate operation. It’s not like a bank which may have a front but where the real trade happens in London. They could get hammered with a no deal brexit, hence all the jobs and assets being shifted abroad in preparation

I think its because of the term 'contracts' under European law, which may affect life policies. I read it somewhere in the IC.

It's not as all the EU clients are going to dissappear of the face of the earth ffs. I wish people would get a grip when it comes to Brexit, you'd think the end of the world had been announced!

AV. is perceived by the market as the one British Financial
most dependent on Europe. What I cannot work out is what %
of the business is represented by Europe. Anyone help me?

As the EU has significantly underperformed ROW over the past
two decades you would expect AV. to lag its UK peer group on
a long term basis.

Add to that the Brexit fear factor and it seems to me that AV.
has done about as well as could be expected.

The Market was always unlikely to keep the price where it was as we approach annuals on 7th March. We've probably never had an ordinary stock with no major issues on a fwd price to earnings of 6 and a price to book of 70%. Usually reserved for reits and retail firms liable to go bust. Market's had its fun.

JP Morgan also reiterated underweight for legal and general TP 239

There may be some switching going on from L&G to AV.
