I'm afraid I do buywell, I just don't get too excited having been through 30+ years of it. Win some years, lose others. But if you withdraw from the market, history tells us, as I'm sure you know, that you will lose big time.

Danielbird.

I’m in at 478 as well. Like you will hold.

Worst shares around.

Dr B, are these the same experts who predicted the disaster from even a Brexit vote to leave, or the same experts who predicted Armageddon from the millennium bug or like the experts at the IMF who continually get their forecasts wrong. There will be no catastrophe from an orderly WTO Brexit, just a need for businesses on both sides to adjust to the new conditions. You really should stop listening to all the brainwashing from the so called "experts" who entirely coincidentally support Remain.

Once a decision is made on either Mays deal or WTO deal then markets will recover and our AV shares will soon return to previous highs. Just a little patience needed.

Anyone who has bought this or any other financial stock in the last 2 years is not looking at the macros that drive markets

The main macro is the USA

OIL and Consumer confidence data both suggest a sharp pull-back is coming this year
it is in fact underway

But over there , for now, value hunters have waded back in that the Global Downturn won't hurt America.

Thus a new batch of fresh money is now sitting on the cusp of a 25% to 30% decline in 6 months ... which historical data shows if you do your homework, which you guys don't.

My average "in" price is 478p. Assuming a total 2018 dividend of 30.2p per share I'm on for a 6.3% yield which still feels juicy enough for me to hold on (despite a slight ache from the 22% capital loss so far!)

Corbyn would likely be a disaster in my mind. Problem is though, we have a lot of (mostly) right wing brexiteer MPs who say we should ignore the experts that say Brexit will be a catastrophe - why should we then believe them about having a hard left govt? We are in a post truth world where bluster and hyperbole count for more than truth. The orange buffoon doesn’t help either.

As for AV getting a decent CEO ASAP is crucial. Next few weeks ideally. I’ve bought a few more, guessing the current yield is about 8.5% if the finals are solid. Whole market is shaky, not that anyone needs reminding

Corbyn gets in and who knows from there. Whatever happens AV. has taken a hammering and there's a few of us on here nursing our losses. Long-term this looks like a pretty little picture though, the value will shine through eventually.

They need a new CEO to give them some focus and direction. In the meantime I'm lapping up the 8% divvy (albeit with a slightly burned tongue).

Brexit will get delayed by at least 12 months

Then both parties will promise a referendum .. again

TO try to win selection for the next election

Don't you find politics so riveting

WJ.

I viewed AV. as a defensive stock , finances looked good , dividend safe , future bright. Past 3 months I’m down 25%

Will continue holding

So selling the back book could lead to a 40% price appreciation.
You do wonder how some of these people find gainful employment.

Take a look at what happened to SLA going down that route.

That's incorrect. AV. Has significantly underperformed the UKX over
the last 12 months. Unless by most of the stock market you mean a different benchmark.

Brexit, Trump, etc

Once all sorted only THEN will we see some normality return to the markets.

This share is no different in terms of performance than most in the stock market.

CALM, CALM, DEEP BREATHING!

That'll get the share price back to where it was a few months ago...jeez, this share is hard work. With its boring composite book you'd think it wouldn't get hit as hard as the likes of SLA.

There is an article on Aviva in the FT today.

‘Investors hope a new broom will rejuvenate Aviva’

Looking at future strategy and the quest for a new boss.

Citi analiyst James Shuck suggests selling back book investments could that raise £8 Billion and add 40% to share price.

I suggest we give the job to him :)
