"Or shock horror not produce it in the first place?"

How do you propose such?

Genuine question.

Incineration makes sense - isnt this also how some Biomass stove thingies work?

Good day Alphorn

Thirty years ago power from waste was the way to salvation. Not only did incineration end dumping waste on land but power was generated from it.

If incineration is taboo what do we now do with waste?

What was good yesterday is bad today.

One of the UK’s biggest pension funds has lost more than £350m on a series of “calamitous221; investments in incinerator power plants that are expected to go bust in the coming days.

The Guardian understands that Aviva Investors will put three incinerators into administration this week after pouring millions of pounds into what has been described as the country’s “dirtiest form of power generation”.

Just to say thanks for reply on 23 November 2023 regarding AVIVA only just had a look at NFDS as was intrigued by the league table.(its been nigh on a year)

I think the idea was mooted by Rumpoles other half or AW which is my preference for the pretentious pill.

Anyway good luck with the league and well done to anyone who can show a gain in the very trying markets we are currently experiencing.

All the best to you and the others

"....KBW is more cautious on Canada and says the consensus may still need to catch up with the large losses that we already know about but perhaps not everybody has fully captured yet.

“The outlook commentary for the combined ratio is that it should continue to improve and the new business flows we focus on seem slightly above expectations and/or at slightly better margins.”

In short, Canada might have provided drama and hasn’t said KBW, which is good.

'Market perform' with a 495p target is its view,..."

".. Jefferies added it was also reassuring that Aviva expects to have incurred claims costs that are broadly in line with their market share given losses in Canada.

The Canadian undiscounted combined ratio for the third quarter was steep at 110%, note the US bank.

While a heavy claims burden, operating capital generation across the rest of the group remains robust says Jefferies, such that the Solvency II ratio has absorbed both this impact and the capital strain from elevated sales at 195% down from 205%.

Buy with a 550p target in the Jefferies view...."

Gentlemen, do take into account that Dame Amanda will not be with us forever.

I would not be at all surprised if at the next AGM/Results, she gave 12 months notice of her intention to step down at the 2016 AGM.

Although this would undoubtedly effect market sentiment in the short term. I am sure we have sufficient high calibre management to continue the momentum that Dame A has created.

À propos grahamburn's wise words.

Around 4 years ago, within our ISAs, after close analysis, my wife and I bought six figures' worth of LIT. We are now approximately 50% up. As an AIM investment, on our passing, our family should also be able to sell it without incurring inheritance tax.

One small word of warning: one of our advisors said that the Revenue could challenge some of it because of some arcane clause that disquaifies the way LIT holds some of its cash resources. I've told my kids it's worth a bit of a fight!

Anyway, caveat emptor, even though we think there's a huge prospect of much further upwards movement.....

BTW I am a great fan of Amanda Blanc. Management really counts in the convoluted world of Insurance. Three dimensional chess is easy by comparison

tornado12,

At 59 I sincerely hope you won’t be dying any time soon, which surely is when this becomes an issue.

whatsup. AIM is a useful source of high quality companies, but you have to mine it thoroughly and sensibly. Many fines gems are there amongst the dross with long term multibaggers and a few high yielders.

But it's up to you to find them!

Not sure how old you all are but making long term pension decisions on a 5 year political cycle seems a bit quick. There has got to be a good chance of this being reversed before you are in a position of dying I hope.
