Good results - expectation was 11m and loss of 5c - comes in at 12m revenue and lower loss. Once this company is incorporated in the US, with break even in Q4, the share should move upward as US institutions that do not buy foreign stock get stuck in. It's cash burn is almost negligible compared to its cash reserves. I would expect the company to make further acquisitions once its business stabilises into profit.

I find market valuations difficult these days - a profit of 20c per share at a p/e of 40 = $8 a share. BUt they have nearly $7 share cash so what would a break even company with that cash be worth? All indices and brokers rate this company a strong buy but I feel an annoucenment of a major client/revenue stream in the new few months is needed to fully set this on its way.

I see there is a Card exhibition in Paris November 5-7.

With a bit of luck, this should bring the Smart Card Co.s to the fore again.

Your input always appreciated.

Maywillow.
Co's like Activcard are much better placed these days than the pure security/internet plays as their technology covers a far broader customer base.

I think that Edefice is an excelent product and IGP sould go far with it.

Livestock thanks again.i see these smart cards have close links to the security/internet plays such as Entrust,Verisign,Baltimore,Ncipher and Earthport. The distinct line between these and the pure smart card co.s seems to be fading.

By the way what do you feel about Intercede(IGP) one of Activcards business links.?

I have had these for years. First bought @ $20 on Easdaq. I have averaged down now on spread bet with Fins and have bought another 500 @ 7.60. Saw them go to $100 in the early days. Keeping my fingers crossed for Nov 4. There does not appear to be any interest for the stock over there or here????

This is ground breaking news...Biometric smart cards now available...

Precise Biometrics and Activcard Field First Biometrics Solu...
October 31, 2002: 2:45 a.m. EST

LUND, Sweden and FREMONT, Calif. (PRNewswire) - Precise Biometrics AB (Stockholm: PREC-A), developer and provider of world- leading and user-friendly biometric security solutions based on fingerprints, and ActivCard(R) (EUROPE: ACTI) , the leader in IDentity Management (IDM) software, have fielded the world's first biometrics solution to be awarded the security validation certificate FIPS 140-1 Level 2, issued by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The certified biometrics solution is now available to government agencies and businesses seeking biometric authentication as part of a Java Card-based smart card ID solution. The security validation certificate emphasizes the high level of acceptance and maturity of a technology and proves that it has met the security requirements of the federal agencies. This can become an important competitive advantage within US public procurement contracts, as U.S. government agencies usually require FIPS 140 certification of all suppliers.

The certificate was awarded to Precise Biometrics and ActivCard for a jointly developed Java Card-based smart card solution that contains a stored biometric template of a fingerprint inside a FIPS-certified applet on a smart card. The solution is designed for use in identity badge deployments by governments and enterprise businesses. The fingerprint identification on the card is facilitated by Precise Match-on-Card(TM) technology and allows the owner to securely and conveniently access systems, facilities and information.

ActivCard and Precise Biometrics began working together in 2000 to bring to the market a secure, certified match-on-card biometrics solution compatible with the US Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC) project.

"Combining fingerprint biometrics with smart cards is the preferred solution for validating employee and contractor identities for government agencies seeking enhanced security because it provides nearly unbreakable three-factor authentication, which is the best identity-based security for the money available today," said Ed MacBeth, senior vice president of marketing, ActivCard.

"This is a very good reference for our security solutions, as well as a commercially important milestone, as U.S. federal agencies require certification according to FIPS 140. We now have a very good starting-point for continued sales within prioritized segments in the US market," said Christer Bergman, CEO of Precise Biometrics.

About The Certificate

The validation certificate is issued by NIST, a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Commerce Department's Technology Administration. NIST's mission is to develop and promote measurements, standards, and technology to enhance productivity, facilitate trade, and improve the quality of life.

The DoD aims to extend the CAC solution to biometrics for the enhanced security benefits of multi-factor authentication. The CAC is a military ID badge that enables building and site access around the world, photo ID, healthcare privileges, and demographic and entitlement information sharing. The DoD has mandated that all 4.3 million active duty personnel will carry the multi-application smart card-based CAC.

As a result of the certification, it will be much easier for government agencies to adopt a combined biometrics-smart card solution for the protection of sensitive information in computers and telecommunication systems in all security systems based on cryptography.

About The Solution

The security-certified joint solution consists of a cryptographic module jointly developed by ActivCard and Precise Biometrics. The platform is a Schlumberger Cyberflex 32K smart card, with the biometric functionality provided using the Precise BioMatch(TM) Pro Toolkit, which enables fingerprint enrollment and Precise Match-on-Card(TM) technology, allowing on-card verification. ActivCard provides the internal Java Card application framework that ensures a secure implementation of that technology and allows other smart card applications to benefit from on-card biometrics validation.

Some ACTIs competitors are coming out with good results so i recon ACTI will doing even better...New contracts coming together now and their leadership is still intact...Well i suppose it does help when you own the patent for digital id smart cards.

Government IT spending will grow 9.7%

'..Federal IT spending will increase 9.7 percent in fiscal 2003, an industry trade group reported in its annual survey. Total agency IT spending will reach $53.1 billion, split almost evenly between Defense Department and civilian agencies, according to figures released this week by the Government Electronics and Information Technology Association of Arlington, Va. GEIA also predicted that DOD’s $26.6 billion IT budget for fiscal 2003 would rise to $34 billion by fiscal 2008, and that this year’s $26.5 billion combined civilian IT budget would rise to $33.1 billion by then. The figures translate to 5 percent and 4.6 percent compound annual growth rates...'

Keeps going, and for long-time holders it needs to. A year ago this peaked at $14 - two years ago at $30 and three years ago, well we were all thinking of retiring on the proceeds - we won't see $99 again for a long time, but once this breaks into porfit, and transfers its registration from a French to a US company I think we will see a big push on the share price.
