Posted at 30/9/2019 19:03 by burbelly For the remainder of 2019 we are focused on advancing the progress we have made on our stated strategic goals, including: the streamlining of the group as a narrowly focused holding company rather than a bank operating group; protecting our core in Botswana and Zimbabwe; and increasing our support of and involvement with UBN. Our priorities at UBN will include supporting management to drive organic growth through digital initiatives, improving efficiency, enhancing credit quality, establishing a sustainable dividend policy, all with the objective of generating shareholder value. We believe that our strategic review has put the Company on the path to long-term success, which will be proven out in the coming months as our core operations demonstrate strength in their markets, and our partnership with EGH deepens to our mutual benefit. |
Posted at 06/8/2019 13:21 by king_doms I'm actually no longer a shareholder of atlas mara, since mid last year. In terms of potential, I agree, a fabulous company. But until income to shareholders (primarily through a dividend) is prioritised then I do not expect much positive movement for the company. It's actually extremely sad, considering asset wise, with the potentially excellent growth in pan Africa, this company has positioned itself to take advantage of the growth in various regions. Just pay a dividend (particularly it's stakeUBN) and there should be a considerable increase in share price |
Posted at 02/8/2019 10:04 by gilgil13 Yes, compared to the assets it has and their externally validated values (e.g. UBN's mkt cap, Botswana mkt cap, EGH mkt cap) then this is really cheap. I think there are two main problems:1. Lack of demand at the moment to invest in Africa, so not many buyers for this, but also currency values are having a steadily negative impact on the assets of ATMA 2. ATMA's investor relations is dire - cannot find any broker research, they don't appear to make any effort to connect with anyone in UK (despite UK listing as pointed out) and their press coverage is weak. So it's unlikely anyone is going to come across them, particularly PIs or small funds in UK which at this market cap is presumably where they should be looking for investors. First one will change with time, second one is an internal issue and we need to put pressure on them. kojo.dufu@atlasmara. |
Posted at 31/7/2019 12:29 by king_doms It's an excellent company in terms of assets, however, imho, the management is significantly overpaid, hence the extreme drop in share price. A smarter plan would be to reduce the management salaries, therefore greater net income and a UBN dividend directly to atlas mara shareholders |

Posted at 11/5/2017 12:11 by x54v A new uptrend starting here by the looks of it.Looks like a decent recovery situation judging by the chart and the recent results: |
Posted at 01/12/2016 09:57 by vacendak ATMA share price is not doing well at all, and no good news seems to be in sight. If it becomes a success story later, it might be picked by one of the EM investment trusts I am invested in. Not going for direct holding on that one after all. |
Posted at 26/9/2016 14:38 by vacendak Forgot to mention that recent FT article about ATMA: "Atlas Mara: waiting game"For those without an FT membership the following comment posted on said article summarises everything: 'Actually that's the only expertise that Bob Diamond brings : how to overpay executives. Reminds me of Fastjet another African venture led by people with decent credentials but who spend little time on the ground and pay themselves too much.' Still holding on before investing on that one - if ever - the idea and strategy do seem sound: Africa will develop big time one day so money will move around (hence banking sector will grow), but the share price seems to tell a neverending story of costs, costs and big salaries. |
