Looks cheap but very difficult to deal in and a wide spread as well. No reference to the AIM listing rules in the results announcement; does this mean that they do not apply to ATY. Does ATY also enjoy the tax advantages ie Inheritance and capital gains tax of other trading AIM COMPANIES?

Perhaps ATY could merge with an existing smaller companies investment trust eg Gartmore Fledgling/Smaller or Henderson Strata which is looking to move into microcaps ? It would be a pity if it had to do this because a small fund like ATY is the most effective at this end of the market.

Anyone know how the new AIM rule impacts? "(ii) Existing investing companies: Those investing companies admitted to AIM prior to 1 April 2005 which raised less than £3 million on admission, will need to make an acquisition by 1 April 2006 constituting a reverse takeover under the AIM Rules. Where an investing company raised more than £3 million on admission this requirement will not apply but such companies must adhere to the guidance for new investing companies set out above." My reading of this and the earlier consultation is that unless some sort of derogation is received for their stated investing strategy, ATY will get delisted in due course along with a number of such companies.

Guess the NAV is over 142p so not surprising there has been some nosey buying of late - not by me since this is almost impossible to deal as itis a residual stock.

Stockpicking hasnt been quite so hot of late but the discount is still wide and overall reasonable value if the market as a whole holds up IMO.

Simon Evans Cant fault them buying into patientline and cardpoint rok property though? Agree with your comments about Collins and Hayes and J Beattie but it appears that Private and COMmercial has been disposed. pity they disposed of ESA inview of todays rise!

Results better than i expected with a lower than expected deferred tax liability but a little disappointed in the divi increase and disappointed also that they invested in cobra but overall highly satis.

Results today - definitely "steady as she goes" - must admit that I am not that impressed. My diversified portfolio of small caps has significantly out-performed theirs over the last year, so they have not exactly done that well out of the small cap bull run. Not sure that I am that impressed with their investments in the year - some real dogs included - Private & Commercial Finance (just announced a second profit warning), James Beattie - struggling with Bham store - wrong time to buy as probably going lower?, Collins and Hayes - don't like this one at all, Park Group - missed the boat completely, Photo Scan - margins under pressure etc. etc. Only one that I would have gone for when they did - NBA Quantum. Portfolio Review During 2003, new purchases were made of the following: James Beattie, Park Group, Rok Property Solutions, SecureBanking Trust Group, Vp, Alliance Pharma, Cardpoint, Cobra Bio-Manufacturing, Collins & Hayes, Ideal Shopping Direct, Oasis Healthcare, Patientline and a further 11 existing holdings were increased in size. Plasmon, Radstone Technology, Intelek, NBA Quantum, Estates & Agency, CRC Group, Alphameric, Gowrings, Delcam, MTL Instruments, Photo-scan, James Cropper, Private & Commercial Finance, Springwood, Ideal Shopping Direct and Dicom Group have all been sold. Several other shares were top-sliced.

Don't know the details, but I think it is quite difficult to convert to an investment trust. I can't see that happening. This is a "steady as she goes" investment!

This would be an excellent buy if it was an ordinary investment trust since the discount may now be as much as 50%. We dont know as they havent revealed their figures yet for year to 31/12/03.. But as an investment company there is a large deferred tax liability of perhaps 15p a share or more. This protects the downside. Does anyone know why they cant run it as an investment trust or seek similar status?

ah yes not disimilar to filling your tax return or attending the dentist. Theres no rush but it has to be done eventually so there is no real reason to delay and early filing/filling prevents mishaps/more damage and helps with budgeting/dental hygiene. A competent accountant could get the accounts ready in a day ready for signing off.

Give them a break - it's only February and this is a small company with low costs - no rush really.

Why does it take so long to get the results out on this minute company in which there has been no info for shareholders since early September? I think they should take a leaf out of Aberforth smallers book who produced their results weeks ago.

35 K STILL represents 2% of capitalisation and dealing costs are a further 21k ie over 1% so this cuts the divi from about 3.5% to 2% or less. otherwise a good company on a nice discount.

The running costs are minimal on this one at £35k per year all in and so I don't think you can allege any "fat cat" behaviour at this company. A model example of how cheaply a company can be run on AIM!

Need to look carefully at the expenses of running this very small company. Directors awarded themselves large pay rises last year. But some good picks in the portfolio eg Wynnstay farmers, Mountview estates ,Clarke t, Dicom, Gibbs na Dandy, Shepherd Neame,Watermark Clarksons as well as some duffers such as Clyde Marine Overall probably deserves wider recognition though almost impossible to deal in it.

Results due this week. Not expecting any fireworks on this one. NAV probably dropped a bit.
