I half expect every morning to see a sudden jump in our share price but nothing so far. What IS happening on this company review. The company should clear the air one way or the other so we can at least put this unknown to bed.In the meantime The Great Democratic Betrayal continues.

Hi

Just look at the graph of S&P and the graph of VILX (or VIX)

Volatility hasn't gone away and 2.75 seems an astonishingly good entry point.

As waterloo has said...it should be a good hedge, but ideally hold for a finite time with a clear price target(s) in mind...

Good luck

PS Almost entirely in gold, silver, copper and VILX...

$22 TRILLION debt in prospect; more Budget wars; Mueller and indictments to come; Brexit carnage...

Volatility rules OK...(its just that the volatility of volatility isn't very volatile right now....)

VOD ... well they have not cut the dividend yet ... 130s seems to be a support . short250 vs long100 am confused now ? marginal trade IMO. with Brexit, obviously FTSE will drop as will GBP, and the drop in GBP will create support for FTSE100. So IMO better trade long 50% FTSE100, short EURO stox(-UK). If we have a hard BREXIT buy into FTSE drop, both FTSe and EURO index basket will drop , but we will have a floor because GBP weakness. Another set up 50% FTSE 50% Nordic vs GERMANY/FRANCE/ITALY/SPAIN . you can always rotate Nordic into FTSE if we have a bad brexit .

jwafc, can't help much on hedging without knowing what you own, and therefore what might work as a hedge. My 'hedge' is a mix of VILX, cash, gold and some funds that are fairly stable dividend payers.

As to good opportunities.....you will have to make your own choices, lots out there but if I knew which would rise or fall ........ I suspect you might be better in a fund. Some excellent ones out there.

Thanks waterloo. I follow SUK2 but yeah I think you're on to something with a 250 short since the ftse100 is somewhat inversely tied to gbp price.

Re. hedging, what's the trick to getting it right? Am I just looking to trim back losses? I want to avoid the zero sum game, right?

O/T again but whilst we're here. I'm nursing a fairly hefty paper loss on VOD. Bought as a defensive but it's acted more like an aim junior - nevertheless, I'm considering adding. Anybody have any opinions?

Appreciated and good luck all

Yes moot recommended to hold for long due to decay. Probably better with a ftse250 short. Less dominated by non UK earnings. I'm still holding vilx but risky

O/T re. the VILX, looking to enter and trying to get the timing right.

My doubts, volitality appears to be rowing back on the s&p and I'm not actually sure it'll be the hedge I'm looking for for my mainly UK focused equities - re. Brexit and all that.

Also, interested to know other's strategy since the KIIDs doc seems to recommend a hold duration of 1 day.

Cheers

Lots of uncertainties atm rouge - Touro, Astor, review of company, Traf, quality and quantity of PRT potential expansion most of which could well be resolved favourably in which case we should enjoy a positive rerating.I can wait.
