If the trade war continues the demand for copper will be postponed, possibly for years imho. The world will go into recession and copper warehouse won't be an issue anymore.

Jailbird - Improved trade relations between the US and China will certainly help but mostly the ever looming threat of a huge copper market deficit developing over the next 5 years together with the current near decade low warehouse stock levels will almost certainly be the key catalyst to drive pricing back up.

Its why virtually no copper miner is interested in selling its producing assets today - they believe/know the valuation will be much higher in a few years time.

He may be jailbird but he has a lot of support with the working class Americans and if he can broker a better deal for the US he will be seen as a hero.

Without a doubt in my mind jailbird the turnaround in metal prices will come when Trump and Xi come to a trade agreement but as this link shows they are poles apart so I don’t expect a turnaround this year.

Ok interesting ... metals are bring manipulated ... Only recently pullbacks were being bought up again because of demand/ supply story and wider deficits .These cannot be manipulated forever We know EV will pressure these niche metals for batteries So MT what do you think will cause the turnaround in metal prices ?

The dollar index averaged well above the current level for the overwhelming majority of the period from when the industrial metals bottomed in Feb 2016 until today - so the current 'strong dollar' explanation is not really supported by fact.

As evidenced by the fact that oil which is also traded in dollars is currently at a 4-5 year high!

This is metal market manipulation by Chinese and other players who continue to import in record quantities - the fact the oil market is much larger preventing the Chinese from manipulating it, is why we hear them continually bleating about 'high' oil prices.

Brent averaged $95 between 2008 and 2016 and $82 between 2008 and 2018, so today's $78 is still well below the level oil has averaged over most of the last decade!

Below is the detailed copper chart.
With any luck, the green line will provide support here at $23.9175 otherwise we can expect further falls to the main support at $22.
jailbird is correct to point out that the weakness in metals reflects the strength in the dollar. Can we expect that to change?

I cant speak for everyone else but Im delighted with todays share price rise.
Note to self...... NEVER EVER complain about Asiamet being a two bob stock again because as recent history has shown it could be worse.... much much worse.
On that note Im going to celebrate with a trough full of pig nuts.

The copper price looks as low as it has been in the eighteen months up to today. However, the share price is looking pretty jumpy.

In a statement, Dr. Hans Zarkov of NASA said,

"This unprecedented share-price movement is no cause for alarm."

I have physical stock in ISA and trading position in spread bet account. All good tax free fun.

To me it makes sense to be a short term trader and long term investor at this stage of development but what do I know!

Each to their own and good luck all however you decide to maximise on this opportunity

bmc - many successful long term commodity market recovery phase investors use share price pullbacks to average up as the investment case strengthens - that requires keeping a close eye on the share-price and the sentiment expressed on BB's since most are frequented by short term traders who generally act as a reliable barometer as to when another pullback/averaging up opportunity is presenting itself.

Thanks CC - sorry i missed that (skipped hundreds of posts after being out of town for a week)

MT - I suspect that anybody who is genuinely only interested in 2021/2, won't be reading this BB on a daily basis. We're all here to spot opportunities, no?
