27/7/2019 23:27 | Fenners, Well said! I agree entirely, DD's contribution to this board is valued, it would be a great shame if he allowed others to curtail his posts by their infantile behaviour. DD I hope you will continue to stick around and post regardless of others who contribute nothing other than a meaningless tick in a box :-) | ianwwwhite
27/7/2019 23:11 | Disco heard your point and would be sorry to lose your input. What I would say though is I never notice the ticks up or down and I don't give a toss about any ticks I get or about anyone else's. Its the quality of the post that matters not my opinion (whether I agree or indeed whether anybody else) agrees with it or not. | fenners66
26/7/2019 09:53 | Thanks.Have just phoned HL and they said 15%, so have completed the W-8BEN. | discodave4
26/7/2019 09:42 | It should be 15% but some brokers still apply 30% even upon completion of the W-8BEN. I closed a iDealing account for this very reason. I've even heard of brokers applying 15% one year and then 30% the following year on the exact same holding, appears to be very broker specific. Saying that i have never had any issues with Selftrade or H&L. | dcarn
26/7/2019 02:07 | Thanks Bukko, will do the form. | discodave4
26/7/2019 00:33 | The withholding tax is 30% for US stock div.s with a refund rate of 15% if you submit a W-8BEN claim form through your (approved) broker. The form has a life of 3 years and can be renewed. All as I recall from a couple of years ago. Hope that helps. | bukko
25/7/2019 23:13 | Question: anybody hold any US stock and what's the withholding tax on dividends (even if in an ISA)?. Been told it's 15%. | discodave4
25/7/2019 16:57 | Thanks SMCN. | discodave4
25/7/2019 16:21 | Thanks bracke :-) | ianwwwhite
25/7/2019 15:29 | ian "downward facing dog". I am unfamiliar with that chart pattern. It doesn't appear in Bulkowski's Chart Pattern Index. I refer you to my post 57097. Looking at the Daily chart for July-Oct 2018 you will see a series of retraces mostly with higher lows and horizontal top line ie. ascending triangle. Whether this pattern will be repeated I don't know. As I posted in 57097 2186 is the level I am watching. | bracke
25/7/2019 14:57 | bracke Re: Not certain what i'm expected to explain. I'm a chart person. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Point taken. In that case would you say that the 6 month line graph above is beginning to look like a 'downward facing dog'? :-) | ianwwwhite
25/7/2019 14:26 | Good day bracke, I'm certainly not joining you in any hot tub lark, I hear that sometimes people get burnt! Congratulations to fenners who has turned the Caterpillar rising costs question into a prime example of Parkinson's Law of Triviality, or 'bike shedding'. Everyone has a view when it doesn't matter, I prefer to rely upon actual data and results to inform my own investment decisions. To each his own.. | ianwwwhite
25/7/2019 13:24 | Even better then. Any construction who do - even more likely to rent. Remember USA still behind the UK in the evolution from buying to renting | fenners66
25/7/2019 12:56 | DD- Ashtead buy nothing from CAT | smcni1968
25/7/2019 12:16 | Good day ian Nice of you to join me in the hot tub. Not certain what i'm expected to explain. I'm a chart person. | bracke
25/7/2019 11:16 | PS So their returns on CAT plant 3 years old would be significantly greater (potentially) than newer more expensive CAT plant (sorry, stating the obvious again probably). | discodave4
25/7/2019 11:14 | Don't know how much Caterpillar plant AHT purchase, they will IMO just source the cheapest branded equivalent plant (there's enough alternatives out there) and maximise returns no matter what (stating the obvious I know). For existing/new CAT plant I'm assuming they will just elevate the hire charges accordingly and increase margins on older plant (their hire charges do not depend on plant age but ZIP codes and durations - looking at their website and checking the hire charge for a JCB 3C). | discodave4
24/7/2019 20:48 | Fenners, I'll leave it to bracke to explain.. | ianwwwhite
24/7/2019 20:37 | URI seems to be ignoring CAT results and is up 4%. | discodave4
24/7/2019 20:26 | duplicate post removed | ianwwwhite
24/7/2019 19:27 | Fenners, I'm shocked. Are your suggesting that AHT has not been working to the maxim 'getting the best discounts available' and 'the hire business is predicated on it not being worth it for construction companies' mantra to date? | ianwwwhite
24/7/2019 19:08 | Fenners, That may be true, but we should not forget the impact of companies divesting themselves of equipment on the second hand values of equipment disposals by AHT | ianwwwhite |
