Where's our retained guru when you need him?

Looks like we have an ascending triangle forming which might indicate a breakout in the coming weeks - or might not! Volume seems to have tailed off recently.

Of course technical analysis might well be trumped by the 'donald' factor...

Hi 2FP,

I can but agree, but who knew Ashtead would turn into the company it is today?

I think the current management deserve a lot of credit for an outstanding performance.

Morning ian
Reviewing my trading history I find I have traded AHT too often.
It has paid for most of my mistakes.
My first buy was 2011 at £1.69 if I had been a long term er then, I would be a richer man today .
With Trump's Trade wars, Brexit, and the EU banks its the best hedge I can find.
as always I live in hope.
Cheers

Good morning 2fp

Smart work, congratulations on your successful trades.

Q1 results are due 11th Sept, so perhaps we might even see a rise beforehand.

In any event, I still see AHT as a keeper for the long term, until the story changes.

Well done!

Morning all
ian bottled out of the short at 2376 as it started to climb .
No complaints 50 pts.
.
Could not understand the drop day before it went ex, but you don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Jumped in around 2345 .
I am now more than fully loaded and smug as hell at picking up the divi.
Would have been nice to top up at the 200 day .
Onward and upward.
Cheers

Amazing how AHT managed to claw itself back to par before the close.

Not too disappointed at this recovery, the amount of shares I am minded to buy to add to my existing holding if we plumb the depths is quite modest, so no worries there.

Good weekend all

Hi bracke

Looking back it seemed that there was a brief opportunity on 2nd Aug at 2230p which I missed, I would be happy to take that if it reoccurs...

Good day ian

It is currently of academic interest but it can be a guide to future price action.

Hopefully 2fp did not cover too early.

I think there is little doubt that the £/$ is responsible for holding the share price at the current levels. It was only 10p short of your target a few weeks ago, were you not tempted?

The qtr 1 results and AGM are on 11 Sept. Maybe your chance will come then.

Hi bracke

No worries, if you haven't got a position currently it is probably only of academic interest.

Interested to know how 2FP is getting on with his short, looks like he struck gold!

I'm still waiting 'till we get down to around 2220 to buy a few back, but AHT is looking surprisingly resilient, probably because of the dollar surge?

Edit: It appears I spoke too soon ..

Good day ian

Thanks for clarification.

I was looking at the right hand column....silly me.

The share price appears to have 'lost' the 27.5p yesterday.

It would have been interesting if the overall market hadn't dropped yesterday.

SP to drop 33p tomorrow?

I note although the £/$ has dropped the FTSE has also dropped and the US Futures.

Looks like FTSE wants to test 7500.

"You may also not be eligible for compensation under the FSCS.

Not cake and eat it. I just want to trade as pre ESMA. I don't need the EU to decide what I do with my money.

Perhaps the ESMA rules could have applied to people trading in their first 3-4 years. After that you have a good idea if you want to continue or not.

Afternoon bracke
.
I did consider 'professional' trader status which operates with lower margin requirements but the sum required to be deposited in the account is very large plus the protective regulations do not cover professional traders.
.
Cake and eat it come to mind.

Which protective regulations are these ? The one's that protect you from yourself?
Sorry to go on, but I hate it when some faceless bureaucrat will not let me lose my money my chosen way,
Cheers
