Mrs Yellen is trying to out do Mr Powell in the spending stakes. She says debt doesn't matter at this stage. So it's spend! spend! spend!

It had another attempt at 3600 this morning but as usual in came support.

I'm now thinking that it's being held in this range pending the hoped for passing of the stimulus bill and then an attempt to push up to 3800.

Good day fenners

Yes indeed. I suspect the range maybe about to break to the downside. It then becomes a question of how much buying support there is to hold it at 3600.

Apart from Mr Biden taking over on Wednesday the banks report this week and as usual the actuals are expected to be better than the guidance.

The week concluded with the share price dropping below the 3635 support level and briefly testing the 3600 support zone which I consider to be the important one. Following the brief test it quickly returned to 3635.

The coming week should be an interesting one bearing in mind events in the US.

First you need to identify the pattern. Second the move up on the 13th may have been the start of a break out of the pattern. Third you are assuming I would have got 100% of the move, that's very rare. Fourth the situation in the US could easily have spiked it up or down. Finally the FTSE offered some good trades, with better risk/reward and with less than half the margin.

Don't let anyone tell you Gurus can't get it wrong....even Elite Gurus.

But that 40 point move both ways has happened what 3 or 4 times in 2 days?
Assume you get it right and take off the 6.5 spread that is 335x4 = £1340
Ok so you have to find the readies for the margin but even say £10k for safety gives a 13% return in 2 days.....

Since you being a "guru" and all what could go wrong?

Good day fenners

"but have you taken advantage ?"
=================================

No. The spread with the Spread Bet company is 6.5 points and the margin required for a £10 stake is £7,300. A FTSE trade is a spread of 0.8 and margin of £3,400. There is no competition.

Pre ESMA regulation it may have been worth a trade.

LOL!

Looking at the doji candle and the size of the volume bar suggests either a battle royal between buyers and sellers or duff volume information. I go for the latter.

It's reasonable to think that one day it will end. How and what the result will be is more to the point. If it's a measured controlled easing all well and good but these events rarely end that well.

It's interesting to view the lower timeframe charts 15 min to 1 hour. It appears very certain that there is automatic buying each time the share price drops to 3635 and selling at 3675. What was particularly interesting was the price action on 13th when an attempt was made to make the new support 3675 but it only held for one day.

Yes I know this is very 'sad' but the I have this overwhelming desire to analyse whenever I put my anorak on. What's worse is if I put the hood on, I then start looking at one minute and ticks....Oh! bliss.

I did consider replying to fenners but on second thoughts decided to treat his post with the distain it deserves.

The last time I mentioned going short was 4th Jan in post 58482.

"Good day fenners

Another gap up today. Approx 100 points available when/if it fills. I would certainly be considering a short but would wait until the US open. Unfortunately the margin requirement and my current trades elsewhere preclude a trade."
================================================================================

Following the gap up the share price reached a high of 3542 and later a low of 3491 = 51 points. I would certainly have not got 51 but 25 would have been acceptable. If the hourly chart is viewed it will be seen that the previous day support was at 3491 before it dropped further. Once it dropped to 3491 it will be seen that became support again.

Moving forward to the current situation. I'm still holding to my thought of a drop to 3600. For those interested in TA look at the RSI for Daily, 4,3,and 2 Hour charts plus the fib retracement for period 19th Nov to 7th Jan. In addition the long upper wick for 7th Jan and the sideways price action since the 7th. I could go on but that is enough to be going on with.

Yep, good work bracke, that's was what I was saying.

Now surely you're not going to let fenners get away with that 'going short' quip earlier?

Lol!

LOL It was worth a try. Might be worth suggesting it to Mr Trump.

'The United States Constitution provides that the House of Representatives "shall have the sole Power of Impeachment" ( Article I, section 2 ) and that "the Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments…[but] no person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present" ( Article I, section 3 ). The president, vice president, and all civil officers of the United States are subject to impeachment.'

It means 16 Republican Senators will have to vote guilty.....seems unlikely.

Then Mr Trump can claim he was unjustly pursued with malice by Mrs Pelosi and her gang out of sheer vindictiveness. Not guilty twice and is proved to be a paragon of innocence. Time for all right thinking people to come to the aid of The President.

Hi bracke,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Re: impeachment = charged. Only one legislative body (House of Representatives) impeached Trump. The other (The Senate) refused, so Trump was half impeached
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A fine piece of Trumpian logic, very funny but unfortunately untrue. The Senate did not seek to impeach Trump, but tried him on the House charges in the original impeachment (#1).

The impeachment stood, the charges (not the impeachment) were voted down.

Hopefully impeachment #2 coming up shortly, unless preceded by Amendment 25.
