13/3/2020 10:09 | Everything being sold for margin calls. Also we buy companies because we expect their share price to go higher, conversely sell when you expect everything to go lower. There are some very high yielding (potentially) stocks available - so some will sell in order to buy them. Maybe if we had lower debt , and better yield the share price would be stronger (who knows) - but we are back to share price being a product of supply and demand - which shows that the false market of buybacks is entirely temporary. High debt is real though.... | fenners66
13/3/2020 09:03 | I can understand Airlines and banks being pasted given the reasons behind this market "realignment" I can also understand that in a general, global market correction most things will fall. What I'm struggling with is the extent to which reasonably soundly run companies are being hit just as hard as companies that are more exposed to the current crisis. I got out of airlines and banks pretty quickly but stocks like this I thought "they'll bounce when the market stops being a sheep" Looks like I got that one dead wrong" Looking beyond CV hysteria and the proposed end of austerity infrastructure investment I would have expected stocks like this one and another I'm in (IBST - Bricks everybody needs bricks if there's going to be a big housebuilding program) to have weathered to storm a bit better. Clearly that hasn't happened, I guess its wait for the bottom now and pile in for the recovery ride. | jas964

12/3/2020 12:55 | No. I thought who would rebrand known brands? Thought of calling A-plant something like Snickers.... But did a google on Mars brands and came up with their top 10 brands It turns out that their number 1 brand was Pedigree (according to the list). So do I expect Mars to start rebranding everything starting with Pedigree and then a sub- brand to kinda identify it ? Turns out they have chocolate bars, gum and cat food as well. And the common sense NOT to rebrand them after their biggest brand !! | fenners66
12/3/2020 12:01 | Pedigree - AHT no longer a mixed breed (mongrel) but now a pedigree (one name)? | bracke

12/3/2020 11:09 | Did anyone get the "Pedigree " references ? | fenners66
10/3/2020 16:46 | It seems as if they did a lot of research and that the change of name to a Spanish holiday home rental business is what local management wanted. I wonder whether they asked the people who place plant hire orders? As far as supplying from anywhere in the country is concerned, that is something that happened decades ago before the local managers were so fiercely judged on their turnover and not on real profitability. | timgriff6
10/3/2020 14:28 | How will the 'identifiable sub-brand' be identified? Sunbelt - A-Plant Sunbelt (A-Plant) | bracke
10/3/2020 11:34 | I wonder what Petronius Arbiter might have said? “We trained hard—but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams we were reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing, and what a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while actually producing confusion, inefficiency, and demoralization.̶ (Just a thought - Petronius Arbiter circ 27-66AD) | perfido
10/3/2020 10:08 | Thank you amaretto1 Also this from VertiKal.net: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ashtead is to rebrand A-plant – its UK business - Sunbelt Rentals from the start of May. The Sunbelt livery is already the same green colour as A-Plant, so it is really down to a decal changes and rebranding A-Plant 190 outlets. The change will also bring the various brands within A-Plant under the single Sunbelt name. These include: Hewden Industrial, Live Trakway, A-Plant Lux, Rapid Climate Control, Mather+Stuart Power Solutions, Leada Acrow, A-Plant Rail, Tool Hire Express, A-Plant Powered Access, PSS Hire, INLEC, EVERCAL, Hoist It, Opti-cal Survey Equipment, FLG Services, Astra Attachment Solutions, GB Access, A-Plant Accommodation and Plantfinder. They will though retain “an identifiable sub-brand that recognises the relevant expert services they provide”. The ultimate parent company will continue to maintain the Ashtead Group plc name. source: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (P.S. Personally I will form an opinion (for/against) once the detail becomes clearer) . | perfido
09/3/2020 20:06 | This new branding under one umbrella of all divisions, Is definitely the way forward for AHTOne number covers all .. APP etc.Gone is the competiton amongst branches.. if you have a dumper in Leeds, and they have not one in Lincoln .. Leeds would have to supply.Gone/ended is the competition/bonuses between branches. All equipment and depots will be rebranded Sunbelt rentals by May.The workforce of all will be one,Imo this is a very good step going forward.. one main hub serves all.It works well in America, so know reason it won't benefit in the UKEsp with tighter margins and more competition here. The Management seem to be very switched on. Onwards + upwards ! | amaretto1
09/3/2020 19:04 | Dow crashing by the looks Margin calls .... | amaretto1
09/3/2020 13:17 | An interesting day....... Referring to my post 57783 It didn't wait until the 19th and at the open 1923 didn't stand a chance. What was interesting (to me) was where it dropped to. On my chart I have a large support line at 1500 which is where it was supported for the first eight months of 2017; who says old support lines are a load of tosh. I did not mention it in my post 57783 because I thought it was too early to drop that far but in this market I should have known better. Following the initial drop and pull back to-day it has risen to guess where? Just above the longer term rising trend line I mentioned in my post. Where next? Anyone who analysis charts will have seen that spikes are often revisited. No doubt Mr Trump will be urging the FED to do something! We await the opening of the US markets at 13.30 (the US changed their clocks at the weekend). From an AHT perspective we are likely to see the battle of the trend line between buyers and sellers. | bracke
