Just seen an interesting piece on cobalt on OilPrice.com about the coming prospects. Mention of a Canadian - ie, smaller, more ethical source than DRC. Looks good, but I still think that IF a Western Co could develop the African source, it would (despite the Greens complaints) prove 100 times better than "others" who will run it anyway. Affect ASA's prospects, anyone?

Well the longer the Administration lasts the weaker the company becomes. There's more than one way to skin a cat....unfortunately we're the cat!

I sense that this can only be for the benefit of the Chinese criminals.

Beginning of the end for Mugabe though... Whether he goes quietly, or on the pointy end of a bayonet, (or lead poisoning) will be determined by his actions over the coming days...

(AIMHO of course)

Bodes well for Zimbabwe, if this goes bloodlessly...

Medium to long-term this must surely be huge benefit to the country and companies like ASA. A potential positive game-changer.

That is if the Mugabes truly are detained, the "youth" G-40 Zanu PF faction are not powerful enough to stir up unrest and derail what is becoming a peaceful coup... At least that's what I hope it is - a relatively peaceful coup, but too early to tell. Emmerson Mnangagwa appears confident enough to have returned back to Zimbabwe without impediment too. Mnangagwa is obviously no angel, but purely in terms of the here and now, it's far better than Grace Mugabe.

However in the short-term, with all that is going, ASA is a mere minnow and will hardly be at the top of anybody's "to do" list. The only thing that now matters for ASA in terms of exiting Administration is recommencing transfers from Freda to ASA. Have they been lobbying the Bank of Zim to lift restrictions and provide all the assurances that were requested? It's been ages since there's been any update.

The Administrators, lawyers and hangers-on are milking it for all its worth and very costly. ASA needs to exit Administration as soon as possible. Even with sales from Diamonds & ASA Meat assets (if these have been received), it will not last long.

Politically and economically, not looking good at mo for Zim and by extension the companies that operate there:

Robert Mugabe sacks vice-president to clear path to power for wife

Depending on how much support Emerson still has among veterans and the military, could this lead to civil conflict within ZANU-PF? Has Grace Mugabe really got enough support and clout to take over? Could be serious trouble ahead with this development. The only thing worse than Bobby Mugabe in power would be Grace Mugabe.

To compound matters the new Zim bond notes have been a complete disaster - the above article makes reference to it, but there are dedicated articles on its failure too. This lack of confidence and fear of past hyperinflation has been the reason the rich few with cash in Zim have channelled it into shares for some perceived protection. So checking the Bindura Share Price is no longer a good test of the overall ASA value.

How short-sighted and arrogant Ning and his cronies were to steal from their own company and think they could get away with it. Had they put in a bit of graft, the $7m or whatever they stole would have covered completion of Smelter (yes it would have been idle, but at least it would have been done and dusted and ready in future for a potential turnaround), would have covered re-deepening Project and at Freda they would have had 2x large mills and 2x small mills in place to be able to produce 90-100K Oz per annum, thereby also pushing AISC per Oz down to sub $1,000.

With all that in place the share price would have been at least 4-5p region, with debt getting paid down and in position to re-direct funds to DRC (Zani). They would also have been in stronger position to weather any potential political turmoil that could occur in Zim.

The increase in value of Ning's holdings would have eclipsed what he stole... The Chinese are stereotyped at playing the "long game". Guess Ning missed that class.

Nickel price up, BNC share price down to 5$ct, now worth 2,1p per ASA share, exactly the amount richpro is offering for the entire company.
