I like the story at AAZ but would I sell AAU to buy the other one? No way! AAU's journey has only just begun.

I like AAZ but believe that it is pretty fully valued compared to some of its peers.

AAU is early on in the journey (AAZ around 2016). In 12 months time if the debt has been wiped out and there is an increase in production with current gold prices I can see it easily achieving 5p - 10p. I hold both but prefer AAZ if I am honest.

I don't think that anyone is suggesting that AAZ is a bad company but rather that there is a value disconnect between their pricing and AAU's

By the way, is the potential bidder not the Government of Azerbaijan?

AAZ net cash 15 million
AAZ Potential Bid
AAZ Massive Potential reserves

I hold both

That is true. But remember previously that AAZ was very much a stock market 'dog' that pretty much everyone assumed would go bust judging by the market capitalisation at the time (which was a lot lower than AAU's currently). The management team was certainly not considered particularly good at that time.

I guess the big difference between AAU and AAZ is that AAZ has demonstrated that it has an excellent management team and delivers very transparent communication. The big step change occurred at AAZ when they announced a solid dividend policy (25% FCF) and the share price moved quickly from 40p to 80p.

Very roughly, I believe the Market Cap. at AAZ is £189m. That's about 11 times their current earnings before tax. I agree that these like ours are expected to increase. But what will our earnings be this year? Multiple that by 5 or 10 or even 11 and see what you get. Not our current Market Cap of £23m. Anyone want to drive a coach and horses through this little exercise.

CC,

That is possible but I think the effect is going to be considerably less than if the dividend looks like it will be a regular event. In my experience AIM investors like simple outcomes and nuanced decisions tend to be less well understood and bought.

Good post JC. To get a word like maturation in as well before 9am, even better.

JC - a one-off divi would draw attention to the company and attract investors who could see the company developing into an annual divi paying entity.

It would appear that there is a lack of understanding (presumably through inexperience) of the significance of a maiden dividend. It is significant as it marks a step in the maturation of a company from one that is consuming capital to one that is delivering cash and the market is usually very warm to this part of the maturation process. AAZ is mentioned as a comparator as there are obvious similarities.

A caveat to this. I don't believe that the reception of a maiden dividend would be anywhere near as warmly received if it was a one off (special) or if the market did not think that the payment was likely to be sustained.

Very odd how the expectations of the 'inexperienced one' always seem to be met.
Whereas, you 'old hands' can't seem to understand what's happening.
The market is indeed a place of irony....and contradiction.

Like most of his statements it is partially true but as usual his understanding is incomplete, presumably due to inexperience.

I can’t see a dividend until the share options are cashed out by the directors otherwise they would just be shooting themselves in the foot I can’t remember when they are exercisable but it’s in the accounts somewhere

I will say it again(not at Brighton) that only a divi will move this share significantly be it regular or not.In October surplus cash will mean Kerim MUST be more forthcoming with future events less we can see issues arisihg. Should I say more transparent.

It will be very interesting to see how our Interims look, even though they won't have the benefit of the inflated gold and silver prices. When we have the numbers we will be able to draw some comparisons with Anglo Asian which appears to have a much higher valuation per share than we do. As I have said to Michael in the past, it would be great if they could do some comparisons and ratio analysis to show what amazing value our shares represent.

A dividend is no 'reward'
It is a partial return of an investors own money....and the share price falls to reflect the payment.
Picking an isolated stock which has risen over a period to justify your thinking doesn't make it correct.
The breakout in gold is expected this week. The direction doesn't really matter...but gold is very close to a major top.

Well we should make our wishes known. Nothing else appears to work to reflect value. As you say Biggles, even a token jesture might be sufficient to change the markets perception towards us.

And the increase in $ilver over the last couple of months could pay for that.....
