Re “Jefferies upgrades from hold to buy, targeting GBp 400” from 17 July 2021. They interviewed John Roberts a week or so after the results;

“2 million new customers” in FY21.

“8 million customers in our base”.

“Most advanced pure play GLOBALLY in our space”.

Double digit revenue growth FY22? “That is our guidance as we see things here today and we are obviously through Q1 (2022)......through (competitor) stores re-opening, etc”.

“In 5 years we believe that we will be in five territories”

“1 year ago we were circa £1bn of sales, we are now £1.7bn of sales and we plan to be over £4bn of sales in a few years time”

“2 years ago we hardly had any B2B business (house builders, insurance, etc), in the last 12 months did £100m. This has got a great trajectory”.

“The German market is twice the size of the UK”.

“We will update in November on how our thinking is evolving (re France, Spain and Italy)……there is about 16m people in the Greater Paris region so we would go and do the GP region. We’ve got all the capabilities”.

Wasn’t previously aware of this; ie two “stores” of sorts in addition to the tie up with Tesco.

“When an appliance is thrown and out and comes back to us, we inspect it and repair where possible. This is a more sustainable solution for those appliances that aren’t quite ready for end-of-life treatment, keeping them in circulation for longer and avoiding waste where possible. We were the first in the world to be certified to a new standard for turning waste electricals into reuse appliances. Once our experts have skilfully repaired the good quality and durable appliances, we sell at heavily discounted prices through our AO outlets stores as well as third party outlets.”

“AO opens new outlet store in Bolton, Dec, 2020 – Elek Direct”

Interim TUs are sporadic. Unless this coming Monday / week (re last year’s 20 Aug 2020), the AGM is 29 September 2021 and the next TU might follow that.

17 Aug 2021 – Whilst awaiting the break out… Some PR and some rising numbers for AO.

“AO celebrates recycling over two million fridges…During the lockdown period of April 2020 to April 2021, AO received over 328,000 unwanted fridges at its recycling plant from customers, which is up by 68% compared to the previous year”.

Very bullish interview on sky news but market ignoring - Still possibly recovering from being previouly over-hyped. p/e ratio while improving still possibly far too hight - up against major and much better capitalised competetion with much deeper penetration of potential consumer base.

Reads quite well:

“Over 1,200 new roles created across the business”̷0;

“Our market share in televisions and audio visual also showed strong growth, achieving total market shares of 6% and 4%, respectively. These are significant milestones in our strategy as a global electricals retailer”̷0;

“and remain prudently optimistic that we will be able to deliver double digit growth as we lap the strong Covid performance comparatives”…

Germany is bigger than the UK; can they get the German revenue (226) up towards the UK revenue (1,435)?

Just for comparison:

30 June 2021: "Dixons Carphone posted a 34% rise in annual profit on Wednesday and said it would resume paying dividends after strong online sales helped the British electricals retailer offset store closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. The group, which trades as Currys PC World and Carphone Warehouse in the UK, reported an adjusted pretax profit of 156 million pounds ($216 million) for the year to May 1."
