17/4/2017 09:50 | Hi SBK, Thanks. I've transmitted your latest post to BARC's BB. IMO, this seems the best way forward, not least as it also leaves open any new entrants joining in easily. By the by, glad you're continuing with the Comp for a while longer. Not that I mind anyone retiring of course... just preferably not immediately after they've finished well ahead of me! However, after I reclaim the Comp title, everyone's retirement without exception will receive huge encouragement from me personally. ;o) - Regards & GL. | jackdawsson
17/4/2017 08:24 | Seriously guys... I am amazed and heartened by the up swelling of support for me. Even from Teesside Tintin! So, 1. I confirm that I acquiesce to the entreaties, pleas and begging for me to continue in the Barc COMP. 2. I would NOT wish to see the COMP move to another site. This would be disruptive to many other competitors. The iii Barc board is very good as is the iii format. I would like things to stay just as worthy so that those new to playing the markets can find the Barc and Anto boards and learn from their experienced contributors and fantastic top 4 BARC COMP players. Very many of the other boards are poor and humourless with peeps just talking their own book up or exercising their fantasies. 3. The simple solution to all this nonsense is for me to henceforward post my COMP entries on the Barcplus board where so many of my cronies are already present and there are fewer people to annoy me. I also want somewhere with a reasonable population to impart my valuable observations about spreadbetting on and how it has made me fabulously rich in only 9 months. 4. I'll probably only visit this ADVFN ANTO board when I feel the need to swear a lot. 5. Regarding the Barcplus site...I'm already there! I just hope they don't gang up on me there too? Regards and thanks to all. IMHO, SBK | sir buns up knealing
16/4/2017 16:37 | Hi SBK Sometimes difficult to tell when you are being serious but I`d like to see you continue in the Comp. As you are still not able to post on iii yourself, both Jack and myself are prepared to do so. If it makes things easier for you, I can even ask Gold if an entry posted here within time can be accepted as an entry, even if not copy/posted on to iii within time limit. I would certainly have no objections. He is the Comp runner so his decision of course. ciao. soi | soi
16/4/2017 14:59 | Hi SBK, Thanks for the kind words & your comment posted on iii. Personally, I hope you reconsider. Really no problem here posting your weekly Comp entries for as long as I also participate. If I'm at my desk, what does it cost me to do your entry when I do mine? An extra few seconds. Not an issue. So I've gone against your wishes & posted your entry, but I'd obviously delete it if on reflection you really insist on leaving the Comp party for good by Monday's deadline. Considering your well-earned close runner-up place in season 11, I really think you should try & go one better next time. ;o) I'm sure we all enjoy the challenge, including Soi. An added challenge for Soi is winning back-to-back titles, something only Mcn & I have attained. So let's look forward to another hopefully exciting Comp season in a world that looks increasingly set for a major collision course on a global scale, probably sooner than later. Some seriously worrying times ahead for most of us. - All the best! | jackdawsson
16/4/2017 14:01 | Jack, If you are about, I would be grateful if you would post this message to all my friends on the Barc BB. Thanks for everything. I won't bother you again. Regards, SBK A FAREWELL FROM THE TRUE WINNER OF SEASON 11 Sadly, it is time for me to hang up my racing helmet and withdraw from the COMP. I can no longer expect Jack Dawsson to ferry my entries from ADVFN and causing him the tedium of having to go and log on there. It is a lonely sort of place, as I was saying to myself only the other day. Jack has been a brilliant mate for doing this for the past 3 months. This help was a surprise to me as I didn’t like the bloke when he regularly won the COMP but I have warmed to him since he became an absolute loser in this regard. Soi also put my entry in one week I think, which reminds me that I should go back and check that it was the right number. Damps, Eadwig, Jack and soi have all been visiting me in my ADVFN cave which has been very nice of them. Though I suppose this could also be down to their spying on my view of the markets to discern how I was going to jump next in the Barc COMP? Alas, there seems to be no prospect of my iii ban being lifted. This is disappointing as I was guilty only of abusing politicians, not other individual posters, nor did I use bad language. I suspect the real reason for my ostracization is that some posters on the boards complained that I was too clever and always right about every subject and this made them feel inadequate and fearful of contributing themselves? I can only put my banishment down to being another atrocity in the barbarian times in which we live. Or maybe I’ll be philosophical and just repeat the Groucho Marx saying: “I wouldn’t want to join any club that would have me as a member!” It was suggested to me that I should get a friend to set up another avatar on my behalf. However, all of my circle are professional people such as lawyers, MPs, journalists and estate agents and I could not of course expect any of them to lie. I had an idea that I could lessen the burden on Jack by posting my COMP entries once a month, retrospectively, but I suspect that some of the more cynical contestants would object to this. Finally, as regard to the last season COMP result. I have no complaint or excuses about this fake news. Other than it closed on the unlucky 13th during an aberrational 4 day week. And soi always made his choices wearing a saffron garland around his neck and holding a lucky Buddha charm in his left hand. Not that I would ever accuse him of underhand behaviour, despite the rumour that he always takes 2 packs of cards to any ex pat Whist Drive and that he even cheats at Solitaire. The thing is I did not take much notice of him this season as he was always so bad at the COMP. But all of a sudden he sneaked up on me, knowing that I was the Daddy, and somehow got slightly ahead, then never let go of my ankles, like a terrier, stopping me from zooming ahead. I was leading most of the last COMP week, in the end neither of us got a point. He had tried to help SAG get into 2nd place by sidling up to him, knowing that I would have to move a good few places away from them both. I actually wanted 213 but this area was blocked by soi lackeys taking up extra space with entries with bizzare fractional endings. Ironically, it was Pat who nearly became the runner up because he had a silly extra half point tucked away. Fortunately Eadwig managed to pip him at the end by a whole 0.02%. I am grateful for this because it would have been shameful if I had been beaten by someone like Pat who is so atrocious at spelling. Despite all of the above, it was indeed the best ever COMP race only marred by the final “result” So, in light of this I offer my victory song, so much more uplifting than those soi dirges (though the Bangkok gals were OK): So, farewell and good luck to all. I know that this will mean that the COMP will now lose all value and I do empathize with all my former competitors at their loss. IMHO, SBK P.S. if I were playing this week my entry would be 219.25. | sir buns up knealing

12/4/2017 17:47 | Hi SBK, I was also rather disappointed to see ANTO drop with such vigour, having sat with my finger on the 870 sell button for a good few minutes yesterday morning. Unfortunately I had a few FTSE shorts and misc other short positions and so wavered and lost the opportunity. This is were SOI with his blitzkrieg approach seems to so often win through. Sadly I neither have the ability, energy or resources to mount that sort of campaign. For me, today was most a SOH exercise. I did note that my rather dull lower risk /income based investment seemed to have a rather good day. I think that was due to a risk off' mood in the market. It is way to early to say but maybe the market is getting a bit weary and needs a good summer recess. | damp seaweed
11/4/2017 16:24 | Hi SBK, I'm out of BARC entirely, but similar thoughts here re Staley, despite his reputation. This latest stunt of trying to identify a whistleblower just confirms to many what a rotten outfit BARC still is. That perception only reinforced. Even on the business side, some very mixed results. Divis cut again, staff bonuses remain high, parts of the business sold off to boost margins, but share price still below what it was when he took over. - BARC customer complaints consistently one of the highest over past few years. Many CEOs seem well over-rated. He's one. However, giving credit where it's due, you also get VG CEOs. Take David Potts at MRW's. In 2 years, totally transformed the business. Before he took over, MRW's seemed favourites for the next big casualty in the cut-throat retail sector. Now well ahead of TSCO's. Proof that a genuinely talented CEO who understands his business, can make a huge difference. - Regards. | jackdawsson
11/4/2017 13:52 | O/T BARC: I feel it might be trying to reach 219 + by the end of Wednesday. After that it is a strong short until close Thursday. IMHO, SBK P.S. I never thought much of this Staley guy. I find it amazing that CEOs of major companies can find the time to get involved in childish games such as trying to find out who has been telling tales. They should get on with working on behalf of their customers and shareholders and earn their bloated pay. | sir buns up knealing
11/4/2017 12:53 | I opened a short at 867.6 earlier. I now see that soi has started one at 864.1 The share price is now likely to head north for awhile. IMHO, SBK | sir buns up knealing
09/4/2017 22:10 | SBK, Thanks, but so is Soi & even more so. I imagine certain less scrupulous players in Soi's position in final week might have waited & then placed their Comp entry closer to yours. ;o) But no surprise here that Soi isn't lacking in sportsmanship in keeping with his overall trading qualities & that he prefers to win on merit. More respect to him for that! One can never be entirely sure with ANTO, but probably a wise decision having a balance at these levels, which are quite high anyway. ANTO's highest close in recent times, 883.50 from 13/2. Intraday high, 905+. Unless copper sells off sharply to fill gaps below, seems a VG chance those highs could be revisited as we approach ex-divi by end of month. But as we know, with ANTO that's far from guaranteed. I too will be away most of tomorrow from late morning onwards, which may be a blessing if UKX continues rising sharply again. - Regards & GL. | jackdawsson
09/4/2017 21:13 | You are a gent Jack. ANTO: I closed my 850 short for a meager 3 points. It was holding too strong. Eventually I re-shorted at 861. Again I felt the uplift too robust and closed for a couple of points. My ANTO account now in balance. I have the feeling, as does Damps, that the results are the driver right now. So, I aim to sit it out and wait. I'm out tomorrow morning. That is probably a good thing. Regards to all during this most important week. IMHO, SBK | sir buns up knealing
09/4/2017 19:30 | Jack, 216.75 please Thanks, IMHO, SBK | sir buns up knealing
08/4/2017 08:24 | Thanks Jack. I would of course do the same for you. Reckon that you are a bit naive about that ruthless mountebank soi though. From the tone of his last post on the Barc BB, however, he sounded a bit burned out. Needs a rest starting right now. IMHO, SBK P.S. My effusive congratulations on your COMP win this week. | sir buns up knealing
07/4/2017 19:38 | Hi SBK She plays Chopin well. Lots of feeling in every note. Fair guess that she probably likes the beauty of some of Leonard Cohen's music & Joy Division, too. By the by, to give you a fair chance in last week of this season's Comp, I'm willing to enter you fairly late on Sunday evening. Obviously by the 9 pm deadline as GoS is known to be fairly strict on that. I think Soi's a fair-minded gentleman at heart, he relishes any challenge & he won't mind this at all. In fact, I'd do the same for Soi if he was in your place. - Regards & take care. | jackdawsson
07/4/2017 18:34 | Suitable mood music for this evening: IMHO, SBK | sir buns up knealing
06/4/2017 17:54 | I think Damp Seaweed has got a real handle on how to trade this share now. He takes a calm, cautious and measured approach. Enters a position only when there is a substantial margin of safety. Annoying really. This share is extremely frustrating gives me a headache and drives me up the frigging wall! IMHO, SBK | sir buns up knealing |
