17/11/2022 20:25 | ^ Agree with all 3 posts above. Mattjos explained how to do a Bed & ISA when I first bought AAZ. 4 years used so far, and probably another 2 or 3 years to move all my shares into my ISA. Really appreciated that advice. LLB - yes with inflation so high, and pay rise demands being so high, freezing the tax thresholds / personal allowance has a bigger-than-usual effect. Katsy - I'm one of those small businesses. Was VAT registered just over 10 years ago, and quarterly returns were really straightforward. The registration threshold was around £75k I think. Deregistered about 6 years ago. Had to re-register this year, having crept above £85k and have eBay threaten to suspend my selling account if I didn't provide a VAT number - so they're in collusion with HMRC (possibly a good thing, but doesn't allow for temporarily going above the limit as I had). Had the registration threshold risen normally I'd have been ok. And I now need to subscribe to Sage or some other third party who'll most probably leak my personal details, in order to submit my VAT returns (Making Tax Digital rubbish). It's waaaaaay worse than 10 years ago. Edit - forgot to mention the bloody 'B' word which happened under the Tories. Lost about 10-15% of my business on the day 'actual' Brexit happened, when eBay EU customers had VAT added to any item listed in the UK. All my EU customers were consumers, so it's now cheaper for them to buy from other EU countries. Back to AAZ. As Matt says, if you haven't already, put your shares into an ISA or SIPP. Should be safe from the taxman for a few years. Hopefully long enough for AAZ to reach mid-tier status :) | bozzy_s

17/11/2022 18:28 | One of the tricks they have used to extract more from small businesses is leaving the VAT registration threshold at £85,000 since 1 April 2017. Inflation has dragged 10,000s into the VAT system who wouldn't have been if the threshold was index linked. This extra cost is ultimately passed on to end consumers. They have also seemingly managed to leave the HMRC approved mileage rate at 45p since 2011 without anyone noticing in the financial media. Motor expenses have gone up at a far higher rate than the understated official inflation rate. The idea that the Conservative party is pro-small business is a complete myth, they have never simplified or reduce taxation like they or Labour insinuate, it's an illusion of choice. | katsy
17/11/2022 18:17 | indeed LLB. Have been beating this drum on here for several years now & I do believe that quite a few have followed the advice and ISA'd many of their shares & therefore protected their divis from the taxman. As each successive Chancellor & govt. are realising, the cupboard is bare! The only way they can keep spending your money is to increasingly raid the few remaining areas of upper-middle-class savings & income … until they eventually drive that socio-economic group into the poor house. If the Tories don't do it this time around, it is beginning to look increasingly likely that the Labour party (in two years time) will definitely get the job done. I think ISA's and SIPP's will be the last ones standing as the electoral backlash from attacking those will be a clear vote-loser but, when the cupboard only has those two pots left in it, they'll start to take them too. | mattjos
17/11/2022 17:59 | On FTX, collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTXs financial records were worse than Enron, its administrator has claimed, John Ray, who was appointed as FTXs liquidator last week, told a US bankruptcy court in filings made public on Wednesday: Never in my career have I seen such a complete failure of corporate controls and such a complete absence of trustworthy financial information as occurred here, Mr Ray oversaw the winding up of US energy company Enron after its collapse in 2001. Enron's bankruptcy wiped the company's $60bn (£51bn) valuation to zero and triggered the collapse of global audit firm Arthur Andersen. Enron’s chief executive Jeffrey Skilling was subsequently sentenced to 24 years in jail after being convicted of charges including conspiracy, insider trading, securities fraud and making false statements to auditors. Mr Ray said in the FTX filing that the company was run by a very small group of inexperienced, unsophisticated and potentially compromised individuals, calling the situation unprecedented.. | laurence llewelyn binliner

17/11/2022 14:19 | #MJ, +1, tax free allowances gradually wound back to zero, directors tax free dividends cut from £2,000 this year, to £1,000 next and £500 the following.. Personal CGT allowances cut in half, then in half again.. Income tax free thresholds frozen to 2028, so pay rises caught by adding to 20/40/45% income tax.. Going over the lifetime allowance (£1.073M) in a pension taxed at 55% on earnings/drawings might not apply to many now, but with the threshold frozen or reducing a lot more compounding dividends over +5/+10 years will be caught by this and get taxed at the more punitive rate instead of the holders lower income tax rate.. Maximising the ISA/SIPP out is essential or get it served over a barrel by the revenue for tax demands.. :o), premium bonds often discounted as investments now offering 2.2% tax free income or you can compound them up if you so wish and plan to hang your boots up a year before getting hammered by the 55% pension income tax bills come along.. | laurence llewelyn binliner
17/11/2022 14:01 | Now even more important than ever to get your shares into either ISA or SIPP. CGT allowance being cut from £12k to £6k next year and then £3k the year after.Divi Allowance also being cut. | mattjos
17/11/2022 12:33 | Yep Someuwin got to have everything in tax free wrapper’s or spreadbets. Near as damn it max out every year, it’s a no brainer for now! | riggerbeautz
17/11/2022 11:51 | I'm sure most here are trading in ISA's and SIPPs so shouldn't be too concerned with this from today's budget. "The Annual Exempt Amount for capital gains tax will be cut from £12,300 to £6,000 next year and then to £3,000 from April 2024." | someuwin
17/11/2022 10:46 | BSFA already have an agreement with "a large medical device company" for Corneas. Even larger companies will be lining up to licence the meat IP too now imo... "...3DBT has entered into a Material Transfer Agreement with a large medical device company. Although the commercial terms have not been agreed upon, 3DBT is anticipating the implementation of a licence model for access to the means of production for 3DBT corneas and associated intellectual property. Similar agreements with different commercial parties will be sought for skin, leather and meat applications." | someuwin

17/11/2022 10:09 | A very good story. Given the billions being spent in the sector I would be surprised if a listed microcap had made such an apparently groundbreaking leap but who knows. Unlimited upside if true but huge competition from unlisted companies who don't need to trumpet their services except to VC funders | donald pond

17/11/2022 08:11 | Thanks for feedback on KETL gents. They are presenting on London on 28th may wait to chat to the CEO then I dont particularly fancy them just keeping an eye on them as they have to find a bottom at some point and come the eventual market turn around will do well. If the chart shows a definite turn though I may indulge or if the CEO impresses me. | pogue
17/11/2022 08:01 | aha, I see,,,, thanx Bumpa, AiE :-) ""A consolidation of shares, also known as a reverse split, refers to the corporate action of a company reducing its number of outstanding shares. While this may inflate the value of its otherwise low-cost shares, it can point to a company in crisis."" so it's actually still flat/falling,,, hmmm.. Cheers Wan :-) | wanobi
