TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Legislative Yuan passed a motion Monday to allow casinos on Taiwan's outlying islands despite protests against the alleged benefits of the project.
The government and lawmakers have been discussing the issue for years, advocating gambling as a way to boost the dormant economies of the islands of Kinmen and Matsu close to China's Fujian Province, and of Penghu County, an archipelago halfway between Taiwan's main island and China.

The ruling Kuomintang, which holds a near-three-fourths majority at the Legislature, defeated the opposition Democratic Progressive Party 71 to 26 in a vote Monday afternoon. The announcement of the result was met with applause from KMT ranks and slogans of disapproval by the DPP.

The KMT caucus officially supported the Cabinet proposal to allow casinos on the islands, though individual lawmakers expressed doubts. The opposition Democratic Progressive Party announced Sunday it would vote against the project.

The motion includes local referendums and the provision that casinos have to be part of international vacation resorts.

Ma's stance on Gaming
April 9 2008; President-elect Ma Ying-jeou pledged to push forward legislation of the statute governing development of offshore islands to legalize the operation of casinos on the offshore Penghu Island. Ma made the remarks when expressing gratitude to residents of Penghu for their support in the March 22 presidential elections. Ma was speaking to a gathering of over 1,000 supporters at the public hall of the Husi Township in the company of Penghu County magistrate, Wang Chien-fa, county council speaker, Liu Chen Chao-ling, independent lawmaker, and Lin Ping-kun. He told the supporters that he would honor all the promises he made to Penghu residents, stressing that after taking office on May 20, and would actively push the legislation of the statute governing development of offshore islands, which includes an article allowing the operation of casinos on Penghu. Lawmaker Lin said earlier that the ruling Democratic Progressive Party has boycotted the bill governing the establishment of casinos on offshore islands, as proposed by the Non-partisan Solidarity Union.

This seems like good news..!! I think by the summer, Amazing Holdings will have the news that they and us have all been waiting for..!!

Political Update
Following the January 12th Legislative elections, the Kuomintang (KMT) gained absolute legislative control in a landslide victory, with 81 seats against the ruling party's 27. The KMT's party policy is to support the legalising of gaming in Penghu, and analysts currently report legislators will be much less likely to be coy about passage of the bill now that their constituency seats are not at risk, compounded by their absolute majority. There have already been various public statements about re-introducing the gaming bill during the next session commencing February 1st, both indicating that the previous 2 versions of the bill (the Offshore Islands version and the CEPD version) are likely to be re-introduced. Both bills would provide for the legalisation of gaming in Penghu.

may top up monday!

Qahrahm,

There is indeed massive potential in the project.!

AMZ's current market cap is £31.75m

The only asset they have is a 27 acre beach fronted plot of land. Added to this is the fact that this land has been rezoned to a commerical designation for leisure, tourism and recreation (this adds value to the land).
How much is this land worth, i don't know, but going by the complexity of obtaining every parcel of land etc. i would assume that this land is worth a large slice of the market cap.

Once the gaming bill is secured, i would imagine that a lot of the financial institutions would be queing up to get involved in some sort of financing...

The way i've always looked at this is the value of the licence. Now i know, Macaau is a fully established gaming mecca with numerous casino's turning over massive amounts of capital on an annual basis, but last year a licence, and only a licence alone was sold for somewhere in the region of $900m.

Obviously, as far as gambling goes, Taiwan is not in the same league as Macau, yet, but i still think the licence could be worth somewhere in the region of $200 - 400m. Even if it's at the lower end of my prediction, i would estimate the share price to trade up to the 600p mark, and this is before a brick or chip for that matter has been laid....

I just hope the markets pick up and that Amazing come with their good news in a bull market rather than a bear market..!!

Currently i can see a lot of potential in this, but there are a couple of things that concern me...

1)This seems to me to have a current market cap at about 5 times assets, so a fair amount of the potential is already factored into the price. Once this is all up and running what sort of market cap would be expected?

2)They don't look to have the cash availiable to do much building once the gaming bill is passed. So, is a significant further placing on the table for later in the year?

Are there other comparable individual casino's that i could look into?

Any info appreciated.-

I am a shareholder, and bought my first lot of shares the day this stock was listed on the AIM market.

The news eminating from Taiwan yesterday, was a setback, but i'm convinced that casino gaming will be thriving in Taiwan at some stage in the future.

Everyone knows that the KMT will win into power, with a landslide victory, and on the back of this, will hold around 65% of the seats in parliament. The KMT are in favour of passing the bill, so once they're in power, and have their feet under the table, i'm sure we could start to see some action.

I'm going to watch the stock for the next couple of weeks, and will probably buy some more once a. the sellers are all out, b. the markets in general settle down...

Hi, looks like a temporary set back to me at this time, but feel the bill will go through, maybe in february. Both parties in agreement on gaming, may have to go for the CEPD version, whatever that maybe ? 60 odd pence drop, what happens if passed next time, could well take off.

I'm not a holder as yet, but looking for a entry point here. On my watch list for 6 to 9 months now, watched it go, up and up and up, so could be right time to get in, risk/reward looks good. Any thoughts guy's ??

Amazing Holdings Plc

Re Gaming Bill in Taiwan

Amazing Holdings Plc announces that the Gaming Bill, in its current format (as
proposed within the Offshore Islands Act) failed to pass in the final session of
the Taiwan Parliament today. Although both major parties are in favour of
gaming, they failed to reach an agreement on which version of the Gaming Bill to
endorse (the other Bill being known as the CEPD version of the Gaming Bill).

It is anticipated the Bill will be re-introduced for a future vote in the next
legislative session in February 2008.

In my eyes, this is a setback, and a setback only....

With the KMT in power by the end of January 2008, the bill will be passed. I'm not saying everything will be all tied up in a matter of weeks, of course not, but, it will happen.!!

A rough old day for us shareholders, but all is not lost..!!

Gambling bill fails to clear legislative floor
12/20/2007 (CNA)

Taipei, Dec. 20 (CNA) A bill on gambling that calls for the opening of casinos on Taiwan's outlying islands if a majority of the residents there consent failed to clear the legislative floor Thursday.

The bill, which is an amendment to an act governing the development of the outlying islands, was not passed at the legislative meeting, with 84 of the 149 legislators present saying nay, 57 saying yea and eight abstaining.

According to the bill, initiated by the Non-Partisan Solidarity Union (NPSU) , if a majority of the residents on Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu consent to the opening of casinos in their hometowns, the central government could grant permits to international tourism hotels to operate casinos and other gambling businesses there as part of efforts to rekindle tourism in those areas.

The local government of Penghu has been pushing for the passage of the bill, while the NPSU lawmakers were hoping it could be passed before the Legislative Yuan adjourns its current session Friday. (By Deborah Kuo)

Very unclear as to what is going on...

A report was leaked on a website that states the bill has been kicked out....

All the major websites have nothing as of yet....

Watch closely - either it's time to call it a day on Amazing Holdings, or, this could be a minor setback, and the stock is very cheap at these lower levels.!!

The Company announces that it has extended its #1 million loan facility

is now repayable in full on 31st March 2008, an extension of three months. The
interest rate remains unchanged at 4% over base. The Company has also granted to
Bayside an opportunity to convert all, or part, of the #1 million loan into
