Thank you so if I'm understanding this right, there could be some of the market skewed to move down as others sell forcing a downwards spiral, presumably until positions are cleared out then the situation could reverse. Getting involved there seems a bit like playing blackjack in a casino....if you start winning they'll kick you out at best.....

On another matter, does anyone know of a site which shows the *volume* of gold traded? The classic Kitco site shows the price chart, but (unlike advfn for shares) doesn't show the volume of gold contracts traded, or any technicals. Thanks.

In normal trading, if MMs aren't allowing buys it usually indicates heavy buying pressure. If IG isn't allowing buys does it mean the same?

£ gold price currently over £2,100/oz, within 3% of the record. Whereas KZT/£ just 1% from its record low, and about 20% weaker than during 2024 H1.

A long time ago I indulged in spread betting via IG, and I thought they were very dodgy, seemingly betting against their customers as PP explains. Whether or not they actually did I don’t know. But the fact that a high proportion of retail customers lose money suggests there is price manipulation by somebody.

Tim. Answer is I don’t know but presume that if it’s closing trades only they won’t open a new open position,

Probably needs someone au fait with spread betting to give definitive answer

Existing positions can be exited, new long bets not allowed. So if a stop loss is hit and you’re closed out, you can’t replace the bet with a new long position. Hence subject to price manipulation risk. Don’t know if PP is saying new short positions are also not possible.

Can you clarify what closing-only means in Altn's context?

I don't know much about SBs,, like you I've always given them a wide berth.

I've just opened a demo IG and Altyn is there, closing deals only.

So basically anyone on spreads from higher will either be stopped out, and if so can't replace their position as its closing deals only.

Likewise companies/organisations etc. if the price is hit prior to news of increased production capacity, its a license to print money.

Altyn also appears for CFD's.

So when an share price drops, it may stop out both, and of course that cascades and is reflected in a greater drop in sp, almost creating its own momentum down.

It can occur the other way, but you'll note its closing positions only.

Then you have rollovers

I wouldn't touch leveraged 'betting' with a bargepole. Its like playing poker with someone who has unlimited funds, can effectively sell into the market creating a self fulfilling prophecy that can save that company a fortune at the expense of those betting.

How does someone benefit out of driving the share price down? I wasn't aware of any short selling in this share but perhaps it's possible?

Has the hallmarks of share price being driven down. Difficult for any on spreads, opportunity for others

Tiny sells again. The 2x 1000 trades look like a rollover.

I am sure the PR side is not lost on them. They must be making sure the expansion has been properly bedded down so they can shout about the production profile.

What we know is they are making good money at the current gold price.....RNS cannot be far away IMHO.

Various commentators are commenting about how seriously undervalued producing gold companies are....and the bid price disappearing on the stock exchange....goldies surely will make a comeback given the gold price strength.

Who knows. They might well RNS the new plant, but might be waiting for some production data before doing so - ie the plant has been successfully commissioned and is running at nameplate capacity.

True, but the newly extended plant coming into full operation is surely good news worth shouting about? Can they really not afford £300 for an RNS? Do people think we will at least get a production update for Q4/full year maybe end of January?

PR has to go hand in hand with consistent operational performance. If you are going to have one, the former will give you short term gains and long term collapse, the latter short term lethargy and long term gains.

Of course, both are the best, particularly if raising money is on the agenda (the current incarnation of GGP is a good example of this). But ALTN are not looking to raise money through issuing shares.

Agree with you, I think PR will happen but not randomly - only when there is strong evidence of operational excellence and perhaps when the company has a reason for getting the share price higher.

Ive had my share of companies who have great PR, tell a great story, but where actually its the typical Mark Twain attributed quote. Altyn play down the PR, but seem to do the job, which is preferable to shouting from the rooftops like companies who end up talk talk talk, then go bust.
