An interesting thought: maybe a bigger splash is planned for when VSA gave completed their "research note"?

sloppyg 'slow burner' sums it up!
If Neil Herbert is looking to raise ALTN's profile, it's tempting to surmise that the emphasis on silver and lack of news re gold at Kara is part of a plan to create a bigger splash with a separate news release. They must have a clear idea of how the gold resource is shaping up and if it were below expectation wouldn't they've released that with the good news for silver?

Hi RT,Thanks. NH seems pretty well-rounded and well connected in the Resources sector over many years. Someone with his CV involved in a £35m cap. company is encouraging in itself?A glass half-full tightfist

No, never come across him before, but a summary of his career history as on
LinkedIn is as below:

'In 2015 Neil became Executive Chairman of Helium One which in 2016 established the world's largest primary helium resource. In 2017 he became Executive Deputy Chairman of Altyn plc, targeting a five hold increase in gold production to 100,000 oz for 2019 with a platform for continued growth. In 2014 he formed Siderian in partnership with trading group Wogen, investing in specialist metals and minerals.

In 2016 Neil stepped down as Chairman of Concepta plc on its successful transformation into a medical technology company and of Anglo African Agriculture plc following completion of a major refinancing. He was also interim Managing Director & CEO of Waratah, reaching agreement on the A$22m acquisition of CSB Engage, the world's leading software provider of customer engagement and loyalty solutions.

On his 2013 departure from managing Polo Resources, Investec Funds Insight wrote 'Under Neil Herbert's stewardship Polo returned $185m in special dividends following highly NAV accretive realisations and has strategically transitioned Polo's resource focus.'

Prior to Polo he was Finance Director of Galahad, another investment group, which achieved an average IRR of 66%pa. Neil became Finance Director of its most successful investment which he took from a small start-up to a $2.5bn takeover in 2 years with Galahad achieving an annualised return of 167%.

He worked with natural resources since joining Antofagasta during its 1990s transformation into a major copper producer with the $1.3bn Los Pelambres and $0.3bn El Tesoro mines taken into production. Following that he was CFO of gold explorer Brancote until its $0.4bn acquisition.

His career began working with PwC, he is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and has a BA Joint Honours degree in Economics & Economic History. He has been a director of companies on the AIM, ASX, LSE, JSE and TSX.'

Good to hear that Neil Herbert wants to raise their profile as their lack of comms to shareholders has made them more or less invisible over the last 6 months. I've never understood why they listed on the main board and then maintained such a low profile.

sloppy,

Yes, it did trigger another ALTN position. But they are building up a bit (37 now open out of a total of 55) as the bounces back have been insufficient for much in the way of cash returns.

So not one of my better 'Staircase' performers as I still have a holding cost at 2.02p/share for those shares held purely in the 'Staircase'.

20% mark down seems harsh but I suspect it is the cash position that is fueling this reaction.

They are not generating +ve cash flow from ops at present which increases the pressure on funding.

They had c.$5m @ H1-16 and stated that was enough to cover 2016 commitments. Also owed EBRD $5m over 6 Qtrs.

However they now need $15m for 2017 Capex and one has to assume that they will need to raise all of this externally. It looks like back to African Resources for more convertible loan notes ?

I know the company were keen to get other IIs on board but not sure if this is going to be possible. It is a good job the major shareholder is supporting this one or else financial viability would be in question...........lets hope support continues.

@Chip - triggered a staircase purchase today or holding fire ?!

sloppyg,

You are absolutely right - I am obviously operating a bit 'sub-par' this morning!

However, I would be relatively happy with a run rate reaching c. 10koz/qtr by the end of 2017 - at least it would be progress!

Chip - the wording re.40k oz for 2017 is a bit ambiguous as they state achieve a "run rate" of 40k oz in 2017 so my take on it is that perhaps production will fall some way short of this level ?

Nevertheless everything heading in the right direction although a real slow burner with such voids between news.

If they can reach gold production of c. 40koz over 2017 they will be getting quite close to the original Deloitte plan for the UG mine for Year #1. So that would indeed be very positive.

Y0 ~ 14.9Koz, Y1 ~ 49.9Koz, Y2 ~ 71.9Koz, Y3 ~ 101.4Koz, Y4 ~ 119.0Koz, etc, etc.

I find it interesting that they state 340 tonnes of silver for an exploration area on the Kara ore field. That equates to c. 11 Moz silver, but very unusual to get a resource estimation in tonnes rather than oz.

That would certainly be a useful addition to revenue. At US$18.5/oz silver those 340 tonnes would generate sales of c. US$202m. But surprising that there are not more results for gold as the original company estimates for gold deposits on Kara were pretty significant (c. 9Moz), presumably based on the historic drilling data.

I have been using a simple price-based system over the last 3 years or so. Once a stock is in my system I will automatically buy it when it drops a predetermined percentage. It makes the decision-making far simpler!

So I have ended up buying a number of new ALTN positions since last June.

sitting duck this one in the absence of regular news flow.

must admit to being tempted for a few more at these levels but not a lot to go on at present to assist the investment case

It's a chicken and egg thing. Do trades move the price or does the price move trades? I'm assuming it's a bit of both.

Someone buys/sells £1million worth of shares with little apparent effect on the sp, whereas comparatively minor buys during the day results in a significant rise. I don't think I will ever understand some of the strange things that happen with thinly traded stocks like Altyn.
