Credit Suisse via Alphaville... Still waiting for first proof point; cash burn remains high. While we acknowledge that ALM has an interesting collection of assets in tech and life science domain, we continue to wait for the first commercialization announcement or liquidity event. In addition, CEO and co-founder (Chris Silva) had recently left the company after 10 years of tenure, which we see as an indication of slower-than-expected progress at key subsidiaries. In the meantime, cash burn also remains high (CSe at ~$100mn pa). Here we note that having raised $81mn in Dec-16 through share issuance, we estimate ALM to have gross cash of $194mn ending 2016. We lower TP to 215p (from 400p) which is based on EV to NPV ratio of 1.50x (vs. 2.0x earlier) given limited visibility around progress towards milestones in key subsidiaries. Taking into account inherent risks and uncertainty, we see a blue sky valuation of 550p (at 4.0x EV to NPV), while our grey sky scenario shows 80p (at 0.5x EV to NPV). Three things: 1. bobonumber1 - extremely naive to think entities like GIC do comprehensive research. If I remember rightly they were caught out on Avanti. In any case, who can do due diligence on pre-revenue tech? They have billions of dollars to punt with. 2. Needs investigating - the price fall looks like insider trading. It may not be, it could be someone who has done some investigative work, but it does look suspicious. Plenty of people on here have called it as a string back full of clouds so this is potentially the case. 3. Agree about Woodford looking fallible. See also RM2, busy making a worse kind of shipping pallet. Xeros is another name Patient Capital has a large stake in, though personally I like the tech involved, and they seem to be making progress. UK VC is puny compared with USA, so I hope he does hit some for 6, but ALM is a reminder that most VC backed projects fail.

There were no BOD buys, even following the share price slump. You can make a case the execs have options so little incentive, however were any of the non execs or chairman buying?, not that I saw.

I do think that Woodford is regarded much too highly. Just go look at RM2 which he is heavily invested in.

Massive write downs - http://www.investegate.co.uk/allied-minds--alm-/rns/reallocation-of-capital-and-resources/201704050700095986B/ Looks like the sellers called it correctly - However what are we to make of the sunny uplands ahead ? "Jill Smith, interim CEO of Allied Minds, commented "There is tremendous potential across our portfolio and pipeline and I am excited by our prospects and the opportunities to drive accelerated commercialisation. Today's measures are a necessary step in refocusing the Company on the areas where we have most potential. While many of the Discontinued Subsidiaries have demonstrated progress against technical milestones, the path to commercialisation is unlikely to yield appropriate financial returns. At the same time, there is an opportunity cost of diverting capital consumed by these subsidiaries from investment in some very promising areas of the portfolio and in scaling our pipeline and partnerships. The restructuring will result in a mark down to GSOAV. However, it places Allied Minds in a stronger position to capitalise on the exciting opportunities in front of us, and ultimately to deliver returns to shareholders over the medium term to longer term through accelerated commercialisation and monetisation, and portfolio growth. These are never easy decisions and I wish to thank the employees, partners and customers of the affected subsidiaries for their contribution and support." Odds on a further mark down --- but only Mr Market will decide as not enough data (imo) on progress of the remaining investments to determine realistic futher revenue or losses.

If there was any news on the horizon which is quite probable then they would not be allowed. I'm sure their friends are !

Well that would mean that Invesco and The Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC also got it wrong. These boys are major players and invested heavily back in December. They do serious due diligence before making a play and would have done so only on solid ground. This is well oversold.
