Sippdeal site is down as I write. Having been offline for 'maintenance' all w/e you'd think they'd have given themselves enough time to test the system and sort out problems before market open.

I'm assuming this is a software upgrade that hasn't gone right. In those circumstances any decent provider would have a contingency to revert to the previous version.

It's basically sloppy software development. If they weren't so cheap I'd have moved long ago as it's not the first time I've had problems with them.

Hi anyone.

I currently have a sipp with epml/selftrade and am thinking of moving to Sippdeal. Selftrade have been ok but epml have been a nuisance for the past two months, so it's time for me to move on.

Does anyone reading this use Sippdeal? Is the dealing service OK? I can see that the costs will be less than those of epml. I only need a basic service, where I make my own investment decisions, buying and holding/selling AIM and fully listed UK stocks.

Any comments, good or bad?

Thanks.

Just on the off chance that anyone is on this thread - do you know if the sippdeal site is down for a valid reason this weekend?

I should have added that A J Bell say that they are perfectly entitled to do this because of the legal relationship they say exists between it ( i.e. the various components comprising the AJ Bell group of companies) and me, its client. In other words it accepts no responsibility for misleading its clients, blaming, instead, an un-identified market maker and refusing to disclose any reason.
I would welcome recommendations to alternative sipp providers who subscribe to a a different code of conduct.

As a sipp holder through Sippdeal (A J Bell), I have recently experienced 2 episodes of concern whilst using its online dealing facility. On both occasions I have placed an order, one to purchase and one to sell, and have been given a quote. You are given 15 seconds to accept the quote which you do by pressing the "Accept" button. On both occasions I did so and then received immediate on-screen confirmation that the transaction was complete. I then signed off and went about my business. When I logged on again several hours later I found out that the transactions had not as I had thought proceeded. I was notified this by a message in my account which stated that the reason was "because the counterparty had withdrawn the quote before it had been accepted".

This is obviously very disturbing because it means that you cannot trust such an online dealing facility if, after you have been told that you have made a purchase or a sale, it can subsequently be reneged upon by the use of that excuse. I have been a client of Sippdeal for 8 or 9 years and have made countless transactions and have never experienced such conduct until very recently.

Has anyone else also been a victim of this sort of conduct, either through Sippdeal or any other online dealer?

Renda2 -

I know, you're right - I suppose I was just feeling a bit sorry for Exec. There are obviously loads of people on this board who know and like Forsaken, and go back a long way with him. They have been eloquent in both criticism and defence of his outbursts, which is entirely understandable and honourable. He's fortunate to have such friends. I just wanted to say 'but what about Exec?'. Should've let it lie, really ... :)

Rayrac,

There have been others???!

Can't say I blame him, if he's gone ... considering Forsaken's 'retribution'.

If you look at it from Exec-line's point of view, the BBers appear to have come out in droves for Forsaken, with yards and yards of the thing they do best, fine talk ... and yet ...

With so many AFN shareholders on the boards (and so many big hearts ... ) you'd think they'd be a bit more ... concerned. :-)

I don't think this has been asked before, but it may have been, and apologies if it has, and I don't know either of the erstwhile protagonists so I don't know why I'm interested, but can anyone tell me what's happened to Exec-line?

Chris G / Niggle - re speeding ...

A police officer pulls a guy over for speeding and has the
following exchange:
Officer: May I see your driver's license?
Driver: I don't have one. I had it suspended when I got caught drunk-driving
for the third time
Officer: May I see the registration book for this vehicle?
Driver: It's not my car. I stole it.
Officer: The car is stolen?
Driver: That's right. But come to think of it, I think I saw the
registration book in the glove box when I was putting my gun in there.
Officer: There's a gun in the glove box?
Driver: Yes sir. That's where I put it after I shot and killed the woman who
owns this car and stuffed her in the trunk.
Officer: There's a BODY in the TRUNK?!?!?
Driver: Yes, sir.
Hearing this, the officer immediately called his captain. The car was
quickly surrounded by police, and the captain approached the driver to
handle the tense situation:
Captain: Sir, can I see your license?
Driver: Sure. Here it is.
It was valid.
Captain: Who's car is this?
Driver: It's mine, officer. Here's the registration book
The driver owned the car.
Captain: Could you slowly open your glove box so I can see if there's a gun
in it?
Driver: Yes, sir, but there's no gun in it.
Sure enough, there was nothing in the glove box.
Captain: Would you mind opening your trunk? I was told you said there's a
body in it.
Driver: No problem.
Trunk is opened; no body.
Captain: I don't understand it. The officer who stopped you said you told
him you didn't have a license, stole the car, had a gun in the glove box,
and that there was a dead body in the trunk.
Driver: Yeah, I'll bet the lying b*stard told you I was speeding, too

I'm not allowed to ;-)

My wife insists on my using the cruise control. She's quite neurotic about all these photo machines along the roads now.

I disagree. A crime against a person or property is a different category, but it is still a crime. And if one breaks rules (or laws) one must expect to pay the penalty. As far as AJB is concerned, its not as if this was the first time either. As I say, its a shame, but that's the way it is.

Regards to both

I've just been over to E*T during the enforced break in ADVFN transmission and "Anthonyjb" is over there posting in a refrained and relaxed manner (albeit rolling out a slanted view of his recent banning here). I wouldn't have said it was the same person!

Anyway, my point is that he has a deep-running grievance with ADVFN and that surfaced time and again in his repetitive postings about the same subject over many months on this board. People would respond, as he wanted, and generally be slagged off for making points and then have those points dissected in public. It was tiresome and he was often rude. His "dust to dust" thread opened with a suggestion that we all collectively were smug, self-satisfied gits (to use his words). Of course, that is better than being (allegedly) drunk, but two-faced (allegedly) also springs to mind.

Before passing judgement, all his threads should be read. You will see the damage therein. It went beyond posting on the BB as Mike will testify, I am sure.

I will not miss those threads.
(EDIT 30/5/01: I will though regret losing his contributions on stocks and markets - far better than I could offer!)

me too - but I think we only actually see the tip of the iceberg and there are obviously wider/deeper issues going on here that most of us probably don't know about.
