Desperate? No I don't think so.Part of a planned deleverage of the balance sheet? Yes.Personally I see these Sov's as getting in early in the mobile money business to make their gains on the planned IPO so are medium term investors, which suits all parties just now I'd say.

Hmmm. It also makes you wonder whether it's desperate for cash. QIA is already an investor and one of AAF's problems is that its shareholder register is filled with sovereign wealth funds. Who then dump part of their stakes into an illiquid market and crash the share price...

It makes sense to monetise part of the business as it grows. Reduces the current debt, lowers long term risk, strengthens the strategic partners and investor list as well as putting a clear value on the assets. It also puts in place a solid floor to IPO from.

*$200m. $200m is chump change to the Qatar Investment Authority. The question for me is why, if AAF is doing so well, it's continuing to sell stakes in this up-and-coming part of its business?

You don’t invest £200m unless you expect massive returns

That's amazing"Profit after tax more than doubled to $142m, up 148.7%, largely due to the higher operating profits along with stable net finance costs which more than offset the increase in tax charges due to increased profits."

Thanks for this Tole.....I'm in from the placing overhang area as above. SOmetimes these provide good opportunities to pick up stocks relatively "cheaply" as MMs hammer the price for a big insti/slug to be offloaded. Looks like this is playing out here IMO.....

Also TMG has just done the same with retiring chairman, also CAPD today.....DYOR but these opps are pretty good and few and far between.

Think Airtel is heading back towards a quid.....DYOR
Cheers

https://www.fool.co.uk/investing/2021/06/14/2-penny-stocks-to-buy-today/My second penny stock pick is Airtel Africa (LSE:AAF). It is a provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, with a presence in 14 countries in Africa, primarily in East, Central, and West Africa. Infrastructure spending in emerging markets such as Africa is expected to continue for many years to come. There is lots to like about Airtel Africa as a penny stock option for my portfolio. It is currently priced at 77p per share, which is 11% higher than its price of 69p back in 2019 when it first floated on the FTSE. I consider this cheap based on its performance to date and past financials.Last year saw Airtel Africa's revenue increase by approximately 14% to $3,908m. Pre-tax profit increased by 17% to $697m. Growth is vital for penny stocks like this. I expect its growth journey to continue especially in an emerging market such as Africa. In comparison, established markets such as Europe have seen firms like BT and Vodafone struggling to boost profits.Based on current levels, Airtel Africa shares trade on 11 times forecast earnings. A 4.9% dividend yield further tempts me towards picking this penny stock as a serious option for my portfolio. As with Costain, there are risks involved in investing my money in Airtel Africa. Firstly, it is in a lot of debt. This usually raises a red flag with me. If interests rate rise, investment and earnings could be affected by spiralling interest payments. Next, it is not the only player in Africa. There is lots of competition out there, which could hinder its progress and market share. Overall, I would be willing to invest some of my money for the long term into Airtel Africa and keep an eye on developments.

I'm interested to see if we clear 81. If not... got to think back down we go. I am surprised at the timing of this rally and I've looked for a broker note to explain the rise this morning but haven't found one... apart from seller cleared and broker note any other reasons for todays rally?

well there was one massive big seller wasn't there, but would have thought that had been placed with other Instis or worked through, but maybe not and we are only just out the other side? DYOR

@ Robsy2: For funds transfer Vodafone has MPESA. Celtel, as Airtel Africa was back then, copied Vodafone's success with it.
