24/11/2010 13:04 | By the way the LUC share has dropped a cynic would say it was always going to happen as we appreached hand over time. I would guess that it will remain that way right up until the transfer time which will mean that from a monetary perspective we will break even (hopefully) imo | varrirob

"We are looking at other means of selling some of the technologies that we have developed," head of Debtech, Domingos Valbom, said. The company is already thinking of commercialising the Scannex-a hi-tech security scanning machine- the use of which has been restricted to Namibia and South African operations of De Beers. The machine is likely to get support from the market at a time when the world is constantly on alert against terror attacks. The machine is able to screen the full body including intestines without any physical search as it is currently done at airports. Scannex is the most advanced screening machine in the world and its radiation dosage can be monitored. The machine is currently marketed around the world and can be adopted to the world outside mining such as airports and hospitals, among others. "We have an agreement with an American company that is helping us to get it licensed out there for us," Valbom said. "What we have is a very simple structure and we do not want to add any structure," he added. Some of the technologies that the company has developed include the Aquarium at Jwaneng mine and the Dense Media Separation (DMS) which is now being marketed to mines outside the diamond industry. The Johannesburg technology based outfit is also credited for the powering of the Vessel called "Peace in Africa", which is currently mining in deep waters of Namibia along the Atlantic Ocean. The development is the first of its kind in the history of diamond mining. +++++ ++++++++++++++++++++ Some of the technologies that have been developed by Debtech are being sold to competitors, other mining houses, such as African Diamonds, which aims to use it at its AK6 mine near Orapa. +++++ ++++++++++++++++++++ Further, the company is at an advanced stage of developing a robot that will be used in sorting of diamonds-a move that will work wonders in terms of cutting down on costs-especially those associated with manpower. The robot, which is still being tested at Debtech offices near De Beers headquarters in Johannesburg, is going to revolutionarise the diamond industry and will also reduce chances of theft. De Beers is 45 percent held by Anglo American, 40 percent by Oppenheimer family while the remaining 15 percent belongs to Botswana government. | markfrankie

19/11/2010 22:12 | If you want to speculate a bit, you might wonder why one of the demerged entities (dormant) is named Botswana Coal plc. | euclid
19/11/2010 22:05 | I haven't a clue what the intentions are re Botswana Diamonds. However there are a number of pieces of 'unfinished business' in the Orapa area that seem to have been idle since DB fell out of the picture. I've lost track of how many kimberlites are still extant in the licence portfolio but the obvious ones to think about are AK8, AK9 and BK5. The March interim statement says:- "While the focus is clearly on AK6, other opportunities are not being neglected. We are considering joint venture proposals on two other Botswana kimberlites in our portfolio. We hope to begin detailed exploration of a third kimberlite and we are developing ideas on how to expand our Botswana presence." Outside Botswana there is the interest in Bugeco and the DRC kimberlites whilst there is also a Zimbabwe interest, apparently, which includes ..."advanced stage diamonds licence applications in the Marange area of Zimbabwe." Have I missed anything? | euclid
19/11/2010 17:35 | euclid - hope you don't mind me asking but what are your thoughts on new co. Will the new team be looking to attract new investors from the offset? I also wonder if they will announce any new finds or exploration news prior to listing. | varrirob
19/11/2010 08:31 | Thanks Euclid | jibbajabba |
