27/9/2010 22:46 | Official figures show that in the first eight months of this year -- including the summer season -- 700,000 fewer tourists visited than last year BY Michael O'Leary's own admission, Ryanair's 'Irish Tourism Recovery Strategy', which the airline "launched" at its AGM on Wednesday, consists mainly of taking a pop at the DAA and airport tax. But the dig also served to flag up a serious situation. Tourism, our biggest indigenous industry, is in a fairly desperate state. Formerly the fastest growing sector of the economy, now visitor numbers are falling faster than an airborne jet plane with its engine switched off. Visitor numbers fell 12 per cent last year, and they're still falling. Revenue fell by 19 per cent. | lbo

16/8/2010 13:54 | Increased charges will damage us -- Aer Lingus Aer Lingus chief executive Christoph Mueller has warned Transport Minister Noel Dempsey that increasing passenger charges at Dublin Airport would force the airline to find an additional 25m in annual savings. Mr Mueller said the airline would have to absorb an up to 41pc rise in passenger charges from this year because it would not be possible in the "current and expected demand environment" to pass the increases on to consumers | lbo
16/8/2010 13:49 | If bond market is right, then recovery is dead in the water The credit markets tend to sniff out trouble first and have acted as an early warning alert at every stage of the financial crisis over the past three years. If the bond market is correct, then this recovery for Ireland is dead in the water. We need to face facts and the facts are most of us have been too optimistic at almost every single juncture in this crisis. Look at house prices, unemployment stats, our yawning budget deficit or the banks -- all of which have produced nothing but bad news time and time again. At every turn, they have disappointed -- especially the banks and more especially Anglo | lbo
12/8/2010 21:45 | Ref. LBO - 9 Aug'10 - 10:19 - 266 of 267 Thats what was said about Anglo Irish Bank too! LOL ==================== Not quite sure how you got to this conclusion. "Don't argue with the tape (ticker)" would have been very relevant with Anglo Irish but on the downside. The ticker or price was heading down so the quote of don't argue with the tickertape would have implied that you should not buy or hold Anglo! I appreciate that things sometimes come out of the blue such as profit warnings etc but the quote is from a wise person and we could all do better if we paid more attention to it. As for Aer Lingus, it's one hum dinger of a chart for me. The breakout above 0.8 implies a rise to at least 1.1 A pull back is to be expected. It would be a great chance to buy if the price comes back to 0.8 but I doubt it will come right back there. If it does, I will be tempted to buy it with a tight stop loss in case it re-enters below 0.8 which would imply the chart breakout no longer applies. However, sometimes Sod's law then applies i.e. you buy it at 0.81 thinking you have done really well to then see you get stopped out at just below 0.8 only to see it then rise again and leave you behind. LOL! | tillman
09/8/2010 10:46 | Aer Lingus passenger traffic falls | lbo
09/8/2010 10:19 | Thats what was said about Anglo Irish Bank too! LOL Aer Lingus carried 8.7pc fewer in July | lbo
06/8/2010 21:04 | And despite all the gloom quoted from LBO, the price still goes up. The quote of: "Don't argue with the tape (ticker)" seems appropriate. | tillman

The Central Statistics Office said that overseas visitors made 502,500 trips to Ireland in May, a drop of by 23.6% from the same month last year. 10/5/2010 10:47 | Aer Lingus saw passenger numbers fall by more than a quarter in April, compared to the same month a year earlier, according to new figures.
