1 I'm very unhappy with the Aberdeen decision.
Of course, it's impossible to stop them. However, I shall remember it when evaluating other Aberdeen products in future.

2 Clearly I didn't understand the ANW announcement properly, as I thought the cash offer was heavily oversubscribed and scaled back. In practice, I got about 90% cash & 10% stock in UnwantedCo.

First shoots of improvement for the Thai economy, had no direct exposure to emerging markets in portfolio so thought I take the plunge. Sat on the fence for a few weeks and missed the divi though.

What the hell's happening to ANW?? It's now above NAV.....

If I had stock I would definitely be profit taking today.

When you say 'historically' do you mean over the last three years of a frantic bear market. If so then I can imagine investors during that period wishing to maintain a large margin of safety between it and the NAV. However with increasing confidence and widespread knowledge of the strength of the Thai markets it does not seem unreasonable that it could track closer than 15% and certainly closer than 30%.
The ANW fund is one of the best most consistently performing funds out there primarily because the managers leave it alone and do not constantly change investments.
It seems that just recently it has been over-exposed (listed last week as the 13 highest most consistant climber of the last 10 days - up there with the best of the equities) and it is possible that over last few days it got slightly ahead of itself. But the way this fund grows it won't be long before a greater margin opens up again.
I think you've sold needlessly sugarbeast and may find yourself buying back in again soon. Its nice to have this tucked away in the back of your portfolio ticking along, sometimes up and rarely down. I find you forget about it and when you come back to it you think good grief, is it worth that already. A nice tonic to all those wildly up and down equities we so love to dabble in!

your maj,

statistics can be made to prove anything, and i am sure you are right.
i didn't look carefully at my last post,it was just from memory.

i think i'm right in saying that the set was at 260 in nov,and 370 now.
ie a 42% rise.

anw shares were at 38 in nov,and 51 now....a 38% rise.not hugely significant,
but given that the company is supposed to be buying back shares and the
discount has widened appreciably,i expected better.

Sugarbeast, just checked the facts on TrustNet. In the last year the SET has risen 17.9%, the ANW NAV has gone up 27.5%, and the ANW share price has risen 32.9%.

The ANW performance is also better than SET over 3 months, 6 months, 3 years and 5 years.

Incidently whilst the SET has gone up 34.6% in the last 3 months, still lots more to come IMHO.

anw seems to be underperforming the index.

thats quite an achievement by aberdeen who have been content to sit
on their portfolio for years.

i would love this to be wound up so that i could participate fully in
the thailand rally.
