Towards the end of last year, there was a post on here suggesting that SPA had won a rather large contract, or it may have been had a forward "order book" value based on pipeline. Does anyone recall the details and value of this, or has it already been accounted for in their projections?

Apologies you possibly know all this anyway, however what I find interesting here, is that the Marketing department of any one company should be providing this information. Avisen partners with Retailers to provide solutions including: Supplier Profitability SKU Rationalization Product Profitability Customer Segment Profitability Sourcing / Merchandising decisions (import/export, category management) Fact-based Contract Negotiations Market Basket Analysis Operational Efficiency - process changes, benchmarking, capacity utilization Supply Chain Costing and Profitability

The site I use as a reference mentions they have landed contracts but can't see any mention of value. May be because I've spent too much time at the computer this week. I note Avisen has won a contract with Tesco. Thats not going to be small. Im also a bit confused as I think Avisen was one of the companies in the endless chain I seem to have held, and the technology on offer is nothing like the data storage I believed them to offer. This is actually quite an exciting company!!!

What sort of value are the contracts they land? Probably a daft question given the number of variables involved.

Thanks mwaller. Apologies just reread my questions to you, which were bashed out in a rush and not particularly well phrased, however you got the gist and have answered them very clearly. There will always have to be some contingency for R&D if they are to stay ahead of the game, however these initial costs are always the killer in any start up business. IMHO a service industry of this nature should operate on a decent margin once R&D are taken out of the equation which is exactly what you are saying too. I don't think 30% is unreasonable personally, although I've not examined the accounts, just basing that on other experience. Would be interested to hear any other opinions.

Yes Hubshank you got it... They have standardised the core spatial data lifecycle management process in the 1SMS suite, and now each client equals profit. 1Spatial Management Suite (1SMS) is new and market ready. I attended the official 1SMS product launch back in mid October, at the London 1Spatial Big Data roadshow. They went through the whole suite, and showed a couple of key hot topic data lifecycle scenarios working, using an actual clients case - OS Ireland. The room was packed out with spatial data industry specialists and the audience were definitely both interested and impressed in the capabilities of the 1SMS suite. For instance what they showed was a spatial data maintenance scenario for field engineers updating the physical survey details on a mobile device and publishing controlled updates to the core national database in Realtime. This is apparently revolutionary to this upkeep process - which is traditionally slow, expensive inaccurate and is as old as the hills (since people doing mapping!). With things changing so fast and need for accuracy and reliability on the increase you can see why this alone is revolutionary to those curators who publish and warrant spatial datasets. The R &D work to bring the new product to Market and the acquisition of first clients is done... We should see new profit from new clients...

Mwaller. As you seem to be very well informed, would you mind sharing some of your knowledge with me? The bulk of the R&D has been done? This will obviously be ongoing together with associated costs Which in turn means that they have a standard package which would them be fine tuned to suit the customers needs; or, each customer is treated as an individual in which case overheads could be quite costly. In my mind, if it is a standard package tailored to an individuals needs then the profit on each new contract will be significantly higher than previously reported as they have had to assimilate the R&D costs.
