I'm not sure its news related. Remember they were at the same investors gig that Wandisco were at. It could just be investors looking around for big data plays and realising that there aren't many, once you exclude MS, Google etc.

Its taken a while to get going, but its getting mainstream and its not just concerned with crunching lots of data - there's a lot more to it, particularly with geospatial data.

As has been said previously, there are quite a few companies and consultancies offering big data analytics, misnamed as 'big data' just because there's a lot of data.

Then there is the 'true' big data analytics, which moves or integrates various data sets into single massive databases, so as to extract new information from them. There are less companies offering that.

Then there's geospatial data, which is used in a large proportion of other big data work, simply because the meaningful information a government or commercial operation wants, depends on some location data. Only a handful of companies have expertise in this area.

Whatever investors thought about Avisen, the purchase of 1Spatial appears to have been a very good strategic move.

Perhaps a few more serious investors have realised the potential 'door-opening' that can result from SPA managing the spatial data for Ordnance Survey. OS are well respected overseas, both in commercial and government areas and since late last year have been offering expertise in those markets:

Plus there is not exactly a flood of other companies providing what SPA provide.

We will just have to watch at what stage the buying stops. They and others could have buy orders on for a few millions more set at limit which I wish I had an idea of.

Looks like Liontrust Investment Management now hold 24,231,567 shares or 6.91%.

Date of transaction to which crossover refers is 4th March so I'm assuming a further RNS will be forthcoming following today's 10 Million further purchase by someone?
