Volkswagen AG said Wednesday that it will lead a group of researchers working to recover and reuse the components of batteries multiple times.
As part of the project, which is funded by the German government, the automotive manufacturer will join a group of industrial companies and engineers to develop processes to recover materials from recycled batteries in order to make new ones, Volkswagen said.
The goal is to keep cathode metals, electrolyte and graphite permanently in a closed-loop recycling system to avoid waste and secure supply for new factories, Volkswagen said.
