DELAWARE, Ohio, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Riverville, Va. and Massillon, Ohio mills of Greif Packaging LLC , a subsidiary of Greif, Inc., (NYSE:GEFNYSE:GEF.B), have achieved Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certification. The mills meet standards demonstrating that they have created and maintain extensive systems to ensure all incoming fiber is sourced from certified land or responsibly managed sources, and that the fiber can be tracked through the stages of production to assure customers that all of the fiber contained in the product originates from well-managed forests, reclaimed materials, or controlled sources.
The certifications address both the wood procurement and Chain of Custody standards from all three organizations for all medium and linerboard products manufactured by Greif.
"This is an important achievement for our mills as it illustrates to our employees, communities, suppliers and customers that we are committed to our goals of sustainable development, recycling of paper fiber and promoting responsible resource management and use," said Tim Bergwall, vice president and general manager of Containerboard Mills. "There is also an advantage for our customers because we have certified our entire mill system to the standards of all organizations. When our customers buy a ton a paper from Greif, regardless of the grade or mill location, they can be assured that it was manufactured in an environmentally responsible manner."
