Verizon Communications Inc. on Tuesday said it is waiving charges for calls to Afghanistan from Aug. 24 through Sept. 6.
The company said the waiver covers consumer and business wireless customers and residential landline customers.
Calls to Afghanistan will be rated at $0.00 per minute, the company said, adding "customers with international coverage plans can call Afghanistan without using any minutes from their time-allotment blocks."
Also on Tuesday, the company said wireless customers can make a $10 donation to assist those affected in Afghanistan by texting RESCUE to 256383. The donations will go to the International Rescue Committee, which offers people in Afghanistan shelter, health support and other aid, Verizon said. The donation will be applied to users' wireless bills, Verizon said.
