Sasol Ltd. said Thursday that saleable production for the first quarter of fiscal 2021 fell 7% on year, as the coronavirus pandemic resulted in a lower productivity rate.
The South Africa-based petrochemical and energy company said the pandemic's impact on its operations appears to have peaked toward the end of July.
Sasol said that its productivity rate for the July-September quarter was 2% lower than in the year-earlier period, but that its September productivity rate was in line with the company's target.
Saleable production for the three months to the end of September was 8.8 million metric tons, down from 9.5 million tons a year earlier.
Separately on Thursday, the company warned of a hit of around 170,000 tons to its North American operations from Hurricane Laura, which made landfall on Aug. 27 near its Lake Charles Chemicals Complex in Louisiana.
