Lockheed Martin, ThalesRaytheonSystems Team Up to Work With NATO Missile Defense

Lockheed Martin (LMT) said they and ThalesRaytheonSystems will joining forces to provide the North Atlantic Treaty Organization with territorial ballistic missile defense command and control capabilities.

Lockheed said the system grew out of an agreement at the 2010 Lisbon Summit, when NATO leaders "decided to develop a Missile Defense Capability to protect all NATO European populations and territories against ballistic missile attacks."

Eric Marceau, CEO of the TRS Joint Venture, said, "This team will provide the operational command and control capability for the protection for all NATO European populations, territory and forces against the threats posed by ballistic missiles."

The program is intended to upgrade, test and integrate command and control systems and communication networks of NATO allies and enable effective information exchanges between various NATO and national missile defense systems, Lockheed said.

ThalesRaytheonSystems is a joint venture between Raytheon Co. and Thales Group, and is based in Paris.

Shares of Bethesda, Maryland based Lockheed Martin were down 0.34% at $317.97 at 12:30 p.m. EDT.
